I have been testing the Diablo 3-piece Auger Bit Set this week. The set includes a 5/8′, a 3/4″, and a 1″ sized bit. I have mixed feelings about the product. They are very aggressive in boring holes, including nail imbedded wood. There is a high torque effect as one is drilling. First recommendation is to use a slow speed heavy duty 1/2″ drill that enables a 2 hand grip. The drill will have a tendency to twist in one’s hands so a firm grip is necessary. Secondly, ,make sure the screw tip is in direct contact with the material when you begin drilling. The tip will immediately penetrate the material and pull itself through. I think the product would be ideal for electricians who must drill multiple holes in studs to run wiring. I would caution using them in an overhead application due to the torque effect. Quality wise, I feel they are extremely durable and should provide long lasting service.

These bits will cut through nails on a constant basis and not stop. I’ve used several other brands and these have definitely worked the best

The DIABLO High Carbon Steel Auger Bit Set (3-Piece) will make a handy addition to our selection of drill bits. They arrived well packaged. The unique shoulder to the drill bit allows it to cut the nails that you will encounter while working with the different woods that you encounter while remodeling houses. They are short enough to allow you to get between the joists without too much trouble. As brand new, they drill very well. Time will tell how they perform drilling through nails and the occasional screw. Down the road, as they get worn, I will find out how easy they are to resharpen the bits, as you will eventually hit a hardened nail or screw that will knock the edge off. But as a good brand name, I am confident that they will perform well.

If you’re not familiar with Diablo tools, you should be. They make some of the best out there. I’ve had great satisfaction with everything that I’ve tried from them. This auger set is no different. The set comes in this popular sized set of 5/8”, ¾” and 1”. These are handy for boring through studs, joists and handy in many fencing, farm situations. They are 7-1/2” long, they have a self-feeding tip that they call DURA-Tip that gets the bit started and pulls it on through the piece. I use them in the 7/16” QUIK-LOK and ½” drill/driver. They are sharp, but durable too. There’s no need to worry about embedded nails with these. They can handle them. The dual edge design means that they cut smoother and faster. My first test of these was with a piece of treated wood. They quickly and easily went through it. These are great for some fence building use too. These bore through a post quickly and cleanly, without having an excessive length bit to struggle with and is easy to store out of the way. Each bit is clearly marked with the size. Carefully open the package and it can be used to store the bits when not in use. These are a great addition to my toolbox and will be to yours too. These quality made augers means a lot of dependable use.

Doing some renovations and had to drill through some serious timber in the ceiling. I was killing myself with Milwaukee bits. Ran and picked these up. I was willing to try anything. got the right angle drill popped this in and I swear I was only there to support the drill. The bit dragged itself through the beams on it’s own. No pushing grunting anything. These bits are amazing

My 12 inch mitre saw and all of my circular saws are using Freud America Diablo brand blades because their performance is superior to all other blades in this price range. Since wood construction and renovations are always ongoing, I decided to try this 3-piece auger bit set. At the moment, I only needed one inch size bit. However, the three-piece set comes with a lower price per bit than buying each individually. The self-feeding tips insure that the bit will not stray from the desired location. These bits are sharp. The manufacturer states that it would be okay to drill in nail-embedded wood. These bits leave a fairly clean surface at the exit side of the hole.

This is a set of auger bits that have a very specific function. If you need to hog out a big hole in a 2×4 or bigger for conduit, piping or anything else up to 1 inch this will make really short work of the job. It has a special tip for centering and for helping with existing nails or screws. This is for rough work. Do not expect a clean hole when you are done. You also need to have a good grip on your drill. This bit uses all of the torque your drill puts out. Do not use these with a cheap drill either. You might risk damage due to the torque requirements. These bits are beastly. Overall, highly recommended.

This is a pretty unique design. I have some short auger spade bits which I really like. There are times where pushing the bit difficult, and the auger really does a good job of pulling it through. The short bits are convenient when attached to a right-angle drill, as you can drill header plates with limited clearance. These bits are kind of a combination. They have an auger tip, then a short section like a spade bit, and then the final edge 1/8” edge or so is then a twist bit. This results in a cleaner exit hole. See photo showing a typical auger bit with a spade type cutter (bottom hole) vs the cleaner hole on top. Often when using a spade bit, I’ll drill through from both sides, when there is sufficient room, in order to keep the exit hole clean. These bits feed fast, which means it takes a lot of drill power. The pitch on the auger is more aggressive than some other auger bits I have. If you are using a cordless drill, it definitely needs to be fully charged, and even then, some drills may not have enough power. The shank of the drill bits have a large octagon shank, which is a nice feature. Guarantees no slip, even when using a keyless drill chuck. However, it does require a ½” chuck. The size is identified on a recessed portion of the bit.Bits are made in China.

They drill through wet wood with no problem and do not wear out like other brands. I’m glad HD has gone with this brand.

The tip sucks the drill right into the wood. Gotta have a strong enough drill to keep it moving. I used it to drill holes in three tree stumps. Well worth it

This Diablo High Carbon Steel Auger Bit Set (3-Piece) has a place. I took them into the woodshop and played a bit. I tried them in my 18v cordless drill, my 20v cordless drill, my corded drill, my drill press, and, don’t laugh, my brace. These were probably never meant for a drill press and trying them out on ¾” hickory wasn’t the best of ideas. Just so you know, I routinely split the hickory. For whatever reason, a clamped piece of 5/8” cherry from the farm proved to be too much for both the corded and cordless drills with a 5/8” auger bit inserted. Both stalled. As to the brace? Wow, it sent the bit through that same piece of cherry like it was cutting butter. The Auger Bits worked well in the brace no matter what crazy job I attempted. When I tried the Auger Bits on some 2”X4”’s (treated and untreated) the Augers really showed their stuff. No challenge, and way faster than any spade bit I’ve ever used. No matter what tool, the Auger Bits turned out hole after hole easily and quickly. The Augers performed very well when they were doing what they were designed to do. Did not have any wood with nails in it to try them out on but I’m sure that will happen soon enough. Nice to know the Bits will be able to take it. I really like the design of these. They work much better than spade bits and the hex shank provides for a meaningful grip by the chuck. The threaded tip is aggressive in getting the cut started and then the auger does the rest. They are massively heavy duty yet just the right size for making holes once inserted in the drill. Inserted in my DeWalt 20v XR Max drill, the length from the tip of the Auger to the back of the handle was under 13 1/2”. As to the brand, every tool that I own that has a blade has a Diablo blade installed. So, for me there’s confidence there. This is a nice, serious set of Auger Bits that is ready, willing, and able to do the job.

I always find the Diablo brand to be high quality material. My usual experience is with their circular saw blades, which are excellent. This three piece auger drill bit set is excellent quality, also. Large flutes, a lead-in screw to pull the bit through the wood, hex shank for easy drill chuck grip, etc. We used them to remodel a bathroom, mainly drilling studs and joists for 1/2″ copper pipe. They produce nice clean and straight holes. The flutes do a good job of keeping the debris clear of the drilling. Do be aware that the flutes are very sharp, don’t handle them casually.

This is a high quality auger set that will take care of most of your boring needs. I use it for running electrical and PEX plumbing. The smaller sized bits are just right for electrical and drill faster. The hex chuck area is a real benefit because there is no slipping, especially on key-less chucks. The self-feeding auger screw at the front has coarse threads so it pulls strongly in soft framing lumber like Pine or Fir. The coated flutes help the shavings feed out of the hole and reduce clogging and jamming. These are a great set for you tool bag.

These bits are very sharp. They drill wood very quickly and cleanly. I used all three in some scrap wood and you have to be careful when they grab they grab. They cut cleanly with very little break out on the other side. I was a little concerned when I got the bit out and seen the hex end but it chucked up in the drill just right. The length is nice to reach through multiple layers of 2 by.
