Purchased in store to replace a worn bit enclosed in a Porter Cable hinge template kit. It worked like a charm. Cut hinges for 7 doors and still sharp as new. It is pricey… but works as expected and will be ready to cut whenever I need it.

The cut diameter is 1/2″ but the bearing is 5/8″ so you need to buy a 1/2″ bearing with it or swap out one of your other bearings.

Needed this for a replacement from a portable-cable hinge jig. the bit that comes with the kit is hss and in pine it dulls quick never mind nicking a nail. Slightly expensive but the only one that fits this jig.

Solid bit but my one frustration was that the bearing was not flush with the end of the bit. In other words, you have to cut your template slightly larger than the intended inlay.

I’ve been using a HSS mortising bit for door hinge mortising template and they wouldn’t last long especially on some mahogany wood doors and some unknown species would cause a HSS bit to burn right away. after doing several hinge mortising ,this bit seems to be just as sharp as new.
