This drill it has what looks like a sheet metal screw attached to the tip of the bit. This feature helps dig into the wood and keeps it on track. It is a very aggressive bit, so make sure you are holding your drill stable when you start drilling. I compared this bit to a plain 3/4 inch spade bit. The Diablo bit drilled the hole in about half the time and with less effort. Both holes had the same quality. So if time is important to you, this is a great bit.

This type of drill bit has a serious bite to it. Unlike a typical paddle bit, the screw tip on this bit literally screws into the wood and pulls the bit in. There is no need for you to push down on it and actually don’t let it go too deep all at once. You need to reverse it out after about an inch of depth and then repeat that again after another inch. This won’t be a problem if your material is not that thick and a very hard material like mine was. It bound up on me and I twisted my wrist pretty good. Follow the recommendation on the package and use a drill with a side handle if drilling thick / hard materials. Also tried it in 3/4″ MDF and the screw tip does not pull because the material is so weak. The bit behaves more like a regular paddle bit- just push and drill.and then is works fine. If you need to drill a hole to a specific depth (not all the way through) then don’t use this bit.

Very nice bit,, sharp and cuts smooth and fast. If your drilling only halfway threw wood you will need to reverse drill because of Speed Tip, will not just pull out like normal spade bits. I put it on my Ryobi Drill and started drilling holes, make sure if the pieces of would is secured before drilling because the bit grabs really well will spin the wood because Speed Tip digs in like a screw. I would most definitely recommend this product 100%, drills holes with ease and clean.

I’ve got a number of spade drill bits. Most of them have gotten a bit dull so I was eager to get this bit to test. It has a threaded tip, which is new to me. I gave it a good test on an old piece of wood. Without premarking with a awl point, I drilled. The bit bore into the wood beautifully. It made a decently clean hole. Drilled a second hole, which was even cleaner. I would like to have an entire set of these guys!

I got the Diablo 3/4 in. x 6 in. Speedemon spade bit, and I really liking this bit. I can drill several holes with this bit in the time it takes me to drill one with my other spade bits that don’t have the high performance speed tip. It just pulls right though the wood and it cleans the chips out well as it’s drilling. It also can be used with your drills or your 1/4″ impact driver. These bits work great for drilling holes to run wiring through studs, gets the job done faster. I will definitely be getting several more sizes of these bits.

This bit throws chips fast and furious leaving a clean hole. Mere seconds per hole in 2×10 joists, it took way way longer to move the ladder and climb up and down than it did to make the holes. I had the whole job done in less time than I had expected it to take to drill the holes with regular bits. It can be a little grabby if you run at too high a drill speed but it is ridiculously fast. Set on low range on my battery drill and it still ripped right through the joist but was a little calmer to control.

First off let me start by saying when it comes to sharpness and longevity, Diablo does a great job. I have never owned a spade bit with a speed tip. Not sure how that would change the dynamics of the bit. I love how sharp this bit is. The only reason I rated this at 3 stars is because of the tip. I feel you lose a lot of control over the cut with this tip because it is pulling you through the wood and not allowing you to adjust your own pressure when and where needed. As for most of my spade bits I use them on a drill press to ensure that I achieve a perfect hole. With the speed tip you can not use these bits with hammer drills or drill presses. So this the speed tip will not find a home in my tool box. Think you can use it with a drill press? Then check out the video I have attached.

The Diablo 3/4” Spade Bit works extremely well. The screw tip design really makes it easy to drill into wood exactly where you want the holes to go. I have only drilled a few holes into soft pine so far for running conduit, so I don’t know how long the sharpness will last. Overall, the Diablo brand is what I choose to purchase because of the durability of the products. Thank you.

This drill bit is definitely a ‘speed demon’ as advertised. I was looking for something that would cut through 2x4s quickly since I plan to put up a trellis using the lumber as posts and bamboo canes as cross pieces. To date, I have tested it out in my hand drill and it definitely sped VERY quickly through the thickness of the boards I tested, 1×3 clamped over 2×4. In fact, it felt as if I was being pulled rather than pushing. I expect that I will switch to the drill press in the future to have a bit more control. (I’m a bit older than some woodworkers and have somewhat weak wrists.)The hole was clean enough for this type of outdoor structure, but not as clean as I would have liked for other uses, such as finger holes for drawers, cutouts for slots, or finished pieces. You would definitely benefit from drilling from both sides to reduce blow-out.All in all, if you are looking for a FAST, sharp tool to give you a quick result, this bit will fit the bill, as they say.

Love the Curves! This is not your father’s paddle bit. The Diablo has an aggressive stance for boring holes in wood. From the screw-type tip (Speed Tip) to the curvature of the paddle, this bit is made to work hard. The 1/4″ hex tip makes it easy to insert into your favorite drill or impact driver. The 3/4″ is the perfect size for running cable through 2×4’s or that project you’ve been working on.

I am a big fan of any of Diablo blades, as I have several of their circular saw blades and they are the best cutting blades I’ve ever owned. So this spade bit was definitely something I wanted to try. It cuts very cleanly, better than most spade bits I’ve owned. Because of the spiral screw head, it wobbles a whole lot less than the regular spade bits I have owned. The only downside to having a spiral screw head is that if you do not drill a small pilot hole first, you run a small risk of cracking less wide wood pieces. For that reason I would recommend drilling a small pilot hole if you have a wood that is less than 2 inches wide and less than 1 inch thick. other than that minor issue I think this is a fantastic spade bit.
