Perfect for a photobooth application. You are not going to get lab quality, but for snapshots of event-goers that are likely going to lose the print if they don’t cram it into their pocket until they get home, this fits the bill. Loading the ink and paper is pretty easy once you have done it. The instructions are a little confusing.

After much research and comparing high end Epson to the Dye-Sub printers I purchased both the DS40 & DS80 for a studio. These have exceeded my expectations in both speed and quality of the photographs. The printers themselves are HEAVY, seem to be designed for many years of use; the outside is metal, compact design, and stackable. The paper has a heavy weight and feels good in your hands. The paper is so robust that my roller paper cutter doesn’t cut it. We have to resort to a shear cutter.

Ive moved up to these printers from a lower-priced dye sub set. These are outstanding printers both on-site and in the studio. Two things jump out at me right away: First, they are very easy to load and if they ever jam (which they have not yet) the media path is accessible, unlike cartridge-style ribbons and paper. Second, the color and gradients are on a par with good inkjets. My other brand printers are terrible with highlights and skintones without lots of adjustmetns. The DNP’s nail it every time. I have two DS 40s and two DS 80’s and am looking to add more very soon.

This is the best printer if you do event photography or even at your studio. I used it for the first time at a very large event and I was able to print and sell enough pictures to pay off its initial cost in one event. It prints perfect quality at perfect speed and its so user friendly. The only thing I wish they would add (but that takes no star away) is a slit hole on the side to see how much paper is left. Please get this printer and come back tell me if I lied.
