It was time that I finally purchased a baby gate since my 1 year old has started exploring the house more. I wanted to keep him safe while also providing a way for the rest of the family to move freely through the rest of the home so I purchased this gate by Dreambaby. This particular gate is a BIG improvement from the gates I used when my older children were younger (cheap wooden gate that pinched fingers and had to be pushed closed and caused numerous pinched fingers or plastic gates where the child can climb up the tiny beehive like holes) and this gate also has a door that can be placed in the “open” position for long periods of time…unlike others that immediately swing shut. Some of the great features this gate offers…that i love…is the auto close, smart stay open (you can do laundry and leave open at night without running into the gate), simple installation without the need for tools or hardware, EZY check indicator (red and green) shows you if the gate is locked (red) or unlocked (green) so there is no second guessing if the door is locked or if the tension on the gate is loose. The gate itself is 30.9 x 29.4 x 2.5 and weighs just 12 lbs. Included with the gate are 2 extensions, 4 tension knobs, 4 mounting cups, 4 adhesive pads, 4 screws and an instruction manual. This gate fits doorways, hallways, and stairways from 29.5″ – 38″. I really like how easy the gate is to open since the latch does not require a multitude of ways you have to push/press it to open it…just push the latch forward, lift the door up and push outwards. Also, the child can not climb out of this gate since the gate has vertical bars as its nearly impossible for a child to get traction that way. The gate itself is a perfect height…I’m 5’3 and it stops at my waist. I am able to open and close the gate with one hand and not have any trouble. A great solution for keeping my son safe while affording me the opportunity to get things done around the house. I was offered this product at a discounted rate in exchange for my honest opinion.

We have the Dawson Gates which we love but needed a wider gate for another doorway. This Chelsea Gate Kit also gives us the option of using the gate with extensions in other areas – a win, win! This is another winning gate by Dreambaby but since it doesnt come in silver to match the Dawson gate, we choose the black for a better color match.We absolutely love that this gate has ALL the same features as the Dawson just the style is a little different. It auto closes and has the hold open features as well! This is another heavy duty metal gate that should last us for years to come. This gate also was super easy to install. No drills/tools are needed, you just install and turn the tension knobs to tighten the gate into your doorframe. Happy repeat customer!

We have about 700 sq. ft. of redwood deck with 3 sets of stairs and no way to keep our two little Yorkies contained. These gates work perfectly! I know they are meant for stairways, in homes, to keep babies off of stairs, but they work perfectly as described above. They are mechanically sound and will withstand the weather for years to come. I would whole heartedly recommend them. Besides serving our purpose, they look great!

I bought this gate after my dog had major leg/knee surgery and I needed to minimize his movements and isolated him in the living room with us, rather than placing him in a crate. We had a 52″ opening and this gate was perfect. We are using it via pressure mount rather than hard mounting it and it is very sturdy. Plus the self-closing feature is great too. Works great and looks great. I would definitely recommend this gate.

We’ve been happy with this gate so far – we purchased two extenders to accommodate the space we are using it for. Unfortunately due to the nature of the installation (not being screwed to the wall) and the length of the gate with the extenders, the gate has become a bit wobbly. It’s sturdy enough that our child can put weight on it and it’s secure and safe, but an adult would definitely topple it over if enough force was put on it. Overall, a great gate, but we’ll definitely use it without the extenders in shorter lengths of space next time.

I have two homes and have bought several of these gates. My installations are difficult because one and sometimes both sides of the gate are iron bannister rails. With the gate adaptors (bought separately), installation was quite easy. When installing against a wall, you are supposed to use the “cups” provided, and this requires drilling a small hole into the wall. IMHO this is absolutely NOT necessary; I cut up a mouse pad and simply insterted a scrap of the pad where the installation post (or whatever it’s called – the part that you screw tight and that holds the gate to the wall)- and it works just fine, not only to hold the thing in place but also to protect the wall or, when using the gate adaptors, the bannister rail. There is a knack to screwing these gates into place, and it would have been helpful had the instructions mentioned this. Too bad there isn’t room here for me to describe it . . .

We shopped around for a while looking for an affordable sturdy gate that would last some time for a growing family and are glad we chose the Chelsea by Dreambaby. I’m only giving this a 3 star rating because there is no 3.5. We love the gate but wish there were more color and finish options other than black or white. And understand that it is a tension mount gate, but it did get hard to tighten the tension knobs by hand when putting it up. With that said, we do love this Chelsea gate. With two little ones and a third on the way, we needed a strong sturdy gate that would hold up to the abuse of a growing family. I can open this gate with one hand and a babe on the hip! Yet, this gate will close behind me and lock so I don’t have to worry. It’s really a sturdy gate holding up to crawlers learning to pull up on everything to motor around. My husband is a kind of ‘step over’ kind of guy, being tall, but we do like the ‘open door’ feature as this is in a high traffic area, the main room of the house, so there is a lot of ins and outs. It’s nice to have the hands free when you are carrying all the baby bags, seats, etc. back and forth. This feature is great for bringing in the groceries too.
