Read the instructions. Good tips on learning how to engrave.I practiced on flat washers before inscribing a number of gift ink pens. The user does need to install the engraving tip before first use. I have only engraved on metal. Great results and the adjustable stroke gives versatility on different hardness mateials.

This product is easy to use and well balanced. Does a great job on soft metals, which is what I use it for most of the time. I have yet to try it on other materials. I like the fact that it had a number/letter template with it. That makes your work much neater. It is a very good engraver that comes with a letter templet to make your engravings look more professional. It also has a replaceable tip that means you don’t have too buy a new unit when the tip wears out and makes it easier to sharpen the tip for longer life.

Product does not but should come with the engraver needle since it comes with a stencil. Also the needle seems to fall out every so often and has to be constantly tightened back in. Engraver HAS to be tilted at a pretty specific angle to work properly when i have used others that arent so picky. All in all, it got the job done, just more tedious than it was supposed to be.
