I originally had the 4000 and I eventually burned it out. That was my fault, I ran it unreasonably hard… I used the opportunity to “upgrade” to the 4200. I found the tool was essentially the same s the 4000, but with the “EZ-Charge” feature. I liked the idea of changing bits without tools, but the mechanism isn’t as reliable as the chuck on the 4000.The problem is the mechanism, itself. Too much lateral force causes chuck to slowly push the bit out. This is especially bad when using Dremel’s plunge router attachment. It’s ruined projects.I honestly wish I could just trade the 4200 for a 4000. I loved the 4000.

I started using a Dremel 395 in 2013 to help finish wooden plaques my CNC carved for the family and close friends. This is a hobby for me. In 2014 I began making Last Supper, Blessed Mother, and Jesus Christ plaques (in memory of my daughter)to give to people who lost a loved one, people diagnosed with life threatening diseases, Priests, people who are always helping anyone in need, and my grandkids’ teachers. My Dremel 395 broke, and I decided to get a more powerful Dremel 4200. This past weekend, I started to finish some plaques when my Dremel 4200 died. I pulled out the old Dremel 395 and repaired it after looking on YouTube for a video on how to repair my 4200, I found one on repairing the 395, and was able to do so. (I wasn’t able to repair the 4200.) My 395 did the job, but I will be looking to replace my 4200. I plan on attending the IWF in Atlanta on August 24th, 2016 where I will visit various vendor displays to see if the Dremel 4200 is still the one to get, or if there is another option (i.e. either by Dremel, or a competitor, if there is a viable one) that I should consider. The 4200 is a good and powerful tool, but there have been a few reviews that some people didn’t get as much service from theirs as they had hoped to. I wish mine had lasted longer also, like I said, its a hobby and I’ve never sold nor intend to sell any of my projects. Its a good tool that made the job of sanding fine details in the plaques I made much easier than if I had to do so by hand.

Bought this tool to do some custom tile cutting, worked great. I was unsure about the power/lasting time of the battery so I went with the corded option. Lots of cord and it is easy enough to keep out of the way. Very happy with my decision. Easy to change out tool heads, carrying case is a little full of attachments that probably won’t get used much but make it a bit of a pain to close due to the random jumble.

I bought the 4200, work station and flex shaft 6 months ago to carve and sell my work to supplement my disability income and probably mostly because I figured it would be therapeutic. Today I was carving a lion figurine out of petrified wood. Very enjoyable and it was starting to really take shape. Then the Dremel slowed down and sped up a few times and died for no apparent reason. Google and YouTube told me it was either the switch or brushes and to take the screws out and cover off. Saw nothing obvious and tried to put it back together. Nothing fit back together and then I broke some perfectly good part. Really disappointed my work has ended.

I bought the 4200 kit for my wife for Christmas, she has not used it very much so now I inherited it for in my workshop. never had a Dremel before, but I found this to be a very powerful and compact tool. Have used it to drill glass, and hardened steel water pump bolts on my truck and finally to adjust both my wife’s and my partials to make them fit more comfortable.

I recieved it before christmas as a present but could’nt use it until after the holiday. Two weeks after using it it stopped working.I returned it with no issues. While it worked it was great.I’m weary about the replacment it did the same thing that the original did which is not go on the first time I turned it on.

I purchased this tool for repairing a Stained Glass Project I was working on. I had assembled the Picture together and while cementing the panels together, one of the glass panels broke. The Dremel 4200 was the only tool that got the Job done, quickly.

Have 300, 4200 & 7700 along with 3 ftom.othrr brands.Build quality is better with the dremel brand than the others. But im still having difficult time with them so im just frustrated with the whole rotory scene.

I purchased this product for a sheet rocking project and the accessory for cutting circles I could not get off the Dremel. The plastic piece that is threaded on the Dremel would just spin. The thumb screw that tighten down on the plastic piece just spun and would not catch. That piece would be better if it was metal that would thread on the Dremel. Now the circle cutting accessory no longer works so I ended up throwing it away

I have owned a 200 series Dremel for several years and it is a fantastic tool. I while back I decided to upgrade to the 4200. I elected to buy a package deal that had some attachments as well (it was pricey but given my experience I felt it was worth it). When I brought it home plugged it in and nothing happened. After quite some time and some internet searches, I determined something was wrong with it. I returned it to the store and with quite a bit of apprehension I exchanged it for another one just like it. This one seems to be working great but each time I use it I am worried it might not turn on. All and all I love the products Dremel produces and this one works great (now). The first try was very frustrating and time consuming but the working model is a fantastic tool.

that thing on the cord that gets in the way of wrapping the cord is nothing more than an antitheft tag holder…got rid of it …

Coming from previous Dremel tools (Model 800 cordless + MultiPro 395) I figured it was time to upgrade to one which has the electronic feedback so that it doesn’t shut off while under load which was annoying from my other 2 Dremels.I’m quite surprised the weight of the 4200(629grams) is so much more than my other Dremels.I can see why my kit (4200 6/40) came with the Grip Attachment(A577) but the attachment doesn’t fit properly. It looks like it was designed to fit backwards instead of how the instructions shows and describes it. Big disappointment here as its un-usable as the Housing Cap would even screw back on with it.Last but not least, would like to see a optional or upgrade Tool Holder replacement to the Work Station 220.When this Dremel 420 is used I’m unable to use both EZ Change levers that are on both sides of the tool. Only one is accessible as one side is blocked – dissapointing.Got to remove entire tool everytime there needs to be a bit change.

I bought this about 6 weeks ago and love it. I have been using it to work on making jewelry out of rocks. I have cut through some pretty hard rocks using the diamond cutting tool and have ground down some other rocks with other diamond attachments. the variable speed makes it easy to pick just the right amount of speed for the job at hand and the easy change mechanism makes switching out accessories a snap! The tool itself is great, I just wish there were more diamond coated accessories (including drill bits) so I could drill holes for things like earring hoops and other small wires.
