The Dremel 1/4-Inch Drum Sander is ideal for rough-shaping and smoothing wood and fiberglass, as well as removing rust from metal and shaping rubber surfaces. Sitting atop a mandrel with a 1/8-inch shank, the cylinder sanding band is covered with coarse 60-grit aluminum oxide abrasive. This purple sanding band is easily replaceable.

These tiny 1/4″ sanding drums are great for detail work. I use them to carve curves in briar pipes. 60 grit bands for material removal and 240 grit bands to smooth out the curved surfaces. 1/2″ drums are too big for this. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to be available in stores but can be ordered online and shipped to the nearest HD store. Delivery to store was on time and pick up was easy (I went when the store wasn’t too crowded).

I do slot of sanding with both my cordless and electric dremels and with this sanding bit, it’s alot easier to get in those small hard to sand places, like the narrow corners of a cedar chest, and it’s nice for taking paint off of difficult patterns of an old, solid iron chair that My mom has..it just is easier, to use. It does all the work and if you know how to use it right, then the sanding discs last, surprising long than I thought they would for no bigger than they are…makes sanding alot easier for an old man like me.

These are great for RC plane building because you can get into a tight radius with them. I do think the stores should carry these in stock along with the fine, medium, and course grit drums. It is not convenient to have to order these online. I like being able to walk into Home Depot and get what I need now. I don’t like to wait for an order to be delivered.
