Good steel. Sharpens up easily with a file, and even better on a belt sander. The fullers help move air to reduce friction on a big log and make a smoother split.

This wedge definitely does the job. As I recall, it was less expensive than another brand. The reason I did not give this a 5 is that the metal is a little soft and after the first use, the head had definite marks from where it was hit. But the sharp edge did not get damaged by the splitting process.
