I use it on rural property keeping a road clear. The shoulder grass is often as much as 2ft tall. It will very frequently get wrapped around the head and stall it out. The problem is there is a gap between the back side of the head and the gear box. It’s in this small gap that grass gets caught and winds around. Bad design. Otherwise the machine is without problems.

Having only used it twice it has worked very well. This is my second Echo (my first was in the summer of 2001) and the startup is much easier than my first. The speed loader is also much easier than the old style as well. Hopefully this will have the same longevity as my old echo.

One of the best trimmers I have purchased

Starts every single time. Owned for 3 years now and it has NEVER left me stranded. I’m in South Florida and we need to mow/trim every single week including several long stretches of wet, thick ditches. Nothing stops it. Make sure you use the True Fuel. Its expensive but will save you in repairs and headaches.

This trimmer is very powerful. It’s taken me some time using it to stop scalping parts of my lawn. I’m learning I don’t need to go full power all the time. The instruction sheet is not very easy to read but it’s not hard to use. I did flood it once and it took me a while to clear it. I am still glad I made this purchase.

Virtually no assembly was required. Filled the gas and was under way in no time. Unlike the lesser priced trimmers I’ve purchased – it was easy to start and worked great from the very beginning. It’s worth the price difference to buy a much better product.

The SRM 235 has one of the smallest guards I’ve seen on a trimmer which means you will get peppered with grass/debris. Safety equipment is a must when using equipment like this but the guard should have offered better protection for better safety for the consumer. 21.2cc is not extremely powerful but great for the homeowner. The speedfeed head is a +. It will stall if turned on its side to trim sidewalks, driveways etc. IF less than half full of gas.

I purchased an older model Echo trimmer 10 years ago and had quickly decided Echo was the best and that I would never purchase another a different brand. However, my older model is ready for a second carb/carb rebuild at this point and I decided to simply buy a second trimmer as a backup to old trusty. I purchased this model recently and took it home to get after 7 acres of trimming chores. I installed the Echo premix fuel, which I still highly recommend over do-it-yourself oil/gas mixture and it strarted right up. I quickly realized after about 10 minutes that the Throttle Trigger was too tight. After 30 minutes I had to stop. My forearm had completely seized up in what felt like a carpel tunnel attack. I barely made it through my hour job through gritted teeth and at that point had decided that the new trigger mechanism on the recent models was a bad engineering choice by Echo. My older trimmer had the near effortless flipper-style trigger that you see on many of the high-end commercial-style trimmers, which has never given me issue. I considered reengineering the newer trimmer myself, adding an older flipper trigger, but decided it wasn’t worth voiding the warranty. My recommendation to consumers – consider this before purchasing. If you have more than a once around the house job to do, this may be an issue for your as well. What makes this worse, is that I think Echo has converted to this new style trigger for all models. My recommendation to Echo is to return to the reliable and comfortable flipper-style throttle trigger, as this engineering choice may eventually kill the Echo brand.
