Over the years, I have owned several of these handy gauges. You must be careful not to dislodge or bend any of the wires. I suggest keeping the package for storing the gauge safely.

My friend has the exact same one. He said the pins were a little stiff moving back and forth. I suggested a bit of WD40 sprayed on the pins to work them back and forth, and now he says it’s a lot better to use. I now just ordered four of em for myself, my bro in law and both my father and father in law.

Great product. Bought it for my husband for Christmas and he loved it. Much sturdier than plastic versions.

On a job recently where older baseboard needed to be matched. I quickly added the Empire gauge to my cart and off I went. Works as expected for the price.

Does the work even on intricate shapes. Requires a little practice before use.Basic design. Price is right.

Not very long and doesn’t have a lock on it, but the wires are stiff so it can still hold a shape fairly efficiently.

This tool is built solid with all metal construction.Soon as you pick it up you can feel it. Because of the thin blade design, 0.03/ 1/32 inches, its sure to capture fine contours and details. Its very simple to use too. Just place and push the back of it on a flat surface and then push the front firmly against whatever contour or pattern you want to capture. Now you’ll have the outline to trace on to your material to cutout. It’s that easy. The blades are 0.03 or 1/32 inches or 0.85 mm. thick and can reach to a depth of 1.8 or 1 13/16 inches or 47 mm. And piece up to 6 inches wide!

I use contour gauges for measuring contours of guitar necks and other guitar pieces found in the construction of an acoustic or classical guitar. This contour gauge is a great buy, excellent value and does the job. I would have give it 5 stars but since I use it on/around delicate wood I have to be careful since the gauge cross bars are steel but the ends of the individual cross bars are relatively smooth and are not jagged or burred. Still, I gave their ends a light sanding to make them a bit smoother. Of course if you can, put some tape over the wood and be careful!

Its compact and fits in my tool pouch. I large enough to handle most any odd angled or shaped molding for a quick trace.

I definitely prefer this contour gauge to the plastic QEP brand. However, the gauge feelers bend/flex to the sides sometimes. Also, for larger contours (stair banister support with 10″ diameter base), this product just isn’t big enough. I ended up using a pencil and string instead.
