I am reviewing an Empire Chrome Auto Lock Tape Measure 25ft long 500AL-25. This high quality product definitely stands out among the others. For starters, it looks very classy with its shiny chrome metal finish and weighs almost 14 ounces. This is a high quality tape measure built to last, with several great features. We all know how easy it is to drop your tape measure. Undoubtedly with this in mind, Empire tape measure features drop protection by the way of its 5 screw housing and high impact resistant case. No more annoying yellow blades; the Empire features an extra wide blade one full inch wide with protective nylon coating for the added durability, and large print against the contrasting off-white background for easy readability. All this makes it easier to read in the low light conditions and for those with vision problems. The blade has 1/8″, 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 5/8″, 3/4″, and 7/8″ increments imprinted on it in black and blue colors against a contrasting background. Easy to read fractions distinctly marked on the blade, stud markings at every 16 inches and a blade that can stand out for 8 inches along with the extra wide blade make it the best tape to use. Measurement Standard used is SAE that is common in use in the United States. Send the older types of a tape measure packing. Remember extending the blade and then trying to lock it manually, while the blade in turn tries to twist and crack? This isn’t happening here. The rigid extra wide Empire blade is auto-locking, meaning when you extend it, it will stay in place. You will have to push the button to retract it when you’re done. The blade is stiff enough to stretch out without bending. This feature makes it much easier to measure distances with one person operation. Its durable right-angled hook is triple riveted and reinforced for the added durability and longevity. It has a dual end which comes handy when measuring pull or push measurements. The top of the hook extends a bit above the blade, about 2 mm high. The tape measure is equipped with an integrated heavy duty metal belt clip on the back. The Lifetime Warranty makes it the only tape measure you’d ever need. Overall, it’s a great tool well designed and built to last.

It is a tape measure after all, there isn’t much to it. The exterior case is durable, and the chrome is pretty. I think this is a tape measure best suited for light duty applications around the home. I currently am using it for my go to small tape measure. The action on the tape is smooth and the autolock feature works well. The return is crisp. I think my favorite thing about this little tape measure is the graduated fractions. They are clear and easy to read. I really like a tape measure that has the fractions because it makes projects that much easier to glance and know. For a short tape measure under ten bucks, I don’t think you can go wrong with empire.

This is the first tape measure that I noticed measures 30 feet. Usually I only see those that measure 25 feet. When I measure something quite high or long, I like that the tape stays straight and does not “flop” over. It’s good and sturdy on that point. The case is metal and the entire piece is quite hefty. There is a handy clip on the back of it to slip over a belt or waist band. One must hold the locking mechanism; it does not stay locked or I am doing something incorrectly. However, I like this measurer very much and would definitely recommend it.

30 ft. Chrome Tape Measure primary characteristic is its durability, long lasting, strong, and sturdy. 30 ft. Chrome Tape Measure is accurate due to its easy to read tape also making it easy to use.30 ft. Chrome Tape Measure weighs more than most tape measures but it is easy to grip and control weight. I would recommend the 30 ft. Chrome Tape Measure to all my friends and contractors for heavy jobs.

This tape measure is a great one for the price. It’s easy-read for beginners, but also accurate for those who are seasoned veterans. It has about an 8′ stand-out, which isn’t bad for a standard tape vs. a fat max or others. The finish is great, but is easy to ding. That’s the only thing I would put against this tape measure is that it’s probably not as durable as some of the other tape measures available.

This is a quality 25 foot tape measure. Sometimes it is easy to take a simple tool for granite but a quality tape measure is were the quality of a finish project starts. This tape measure is very easy to read and pull out and the retracting is very smooth. It has a large black end catch that has three rivets attaching it but you can still read the inch and less measurements easily at the end. It fit your hand very well and has a compact design. The tape is white with black numbers and blue numbers for 16 inch centers. It does have a lock button and on the backend has an area to write number measurements so you don’t forget. I really like this feature of the tape. I like the function, feel, and look of the tape measure. Simple tool but an important one on any project.

The tape has worked great for me. Very smooth and easy to read. Have only used in dry weather but for $10 it works great. This tape and the ryobi 25ft are the best for under $10 comparable to more expensive tape measures

Wow, this tape measure is just great with 30 full feet of measuring tape. I measure a lot in my backyard and around my house so it came in very handy measuring space to erect a shed in the backyard. There are some situations where its faster and easier and where you don’t want to break the flow of the measure just 5 feet more. I would recommend this product for that reason alone.

Love this tape measure. Very easy to work with. It has notches at the end which make it easy to lay flat when measuring

Tape is thin and flimsy, hence the price

Excellent tape measure. Tested for accuracy against my Milwaukee and Stanley, and it’s completely suitable for woodworking. Tough enough to resist being tossed in a tool bag every day, and comfortable in the hand.

This is a nice tape measure by Empire, a name I typically associate with good quality levels. The 3-inch L x 3-inch H x 1-1/4-inch W body of this tape measure is clad in chromed plastic that easily show fingerprints and smudges. The tape measure features a metal spring clip for attachment to a belt. The manufacturer claims the approx/ ¾-inch wide tape is capable of a 6-ft standout, but I was only able to achieve a standout of 5-ft. 4 inches, which is still pretty good for a compact tape measure. The nylon coated blade is secure by 3 rivets, and the numbers on the tape are easy to read with special markings at every 12-inch and 16-inch increment. The tape requires a little effort to lock because it’s stiff and the hard plastic button doesn’t protrude much from the body, but it may become easier to lock over time with use. A rubberized button would have allowed for a better grip on the button. The backside of the tape measure features a 1-1/8-inch x ¾-inch marking surface for scratching down notes and measurements. The scratch area is small, and I tend to write large and carry a pad of paper, so I’m not sure how useful it is for me personally, but I understand the manufacturer wanting to make use of space that otherwise would be unused. Although the blister packaging indicates the tape measure is backed by a limited lifetime warranty, details of the warranty were no where to be found. I guess you find out what the warranty is when and if you return the tape measure to the store for an exchange. Overall, I’m satisfied with this tape measure. It’s a good size for a tool box or glove box.

Very nice well made tape measure..It boasts that it will stay true for up to 8′ mine fell a little shy of that..One of the first steel tape measures I have seen in recent years that has a bright white ,almost luminous back ground ..sure makes it easy to read..Large Black inch markings then after the first foot it marks your intermediate inch markings in blue helps when your trying to ad inches to feet..very light weight for a 35′ tape..case is well made with easy toreach lock and unlock tab

Is a tape measure, just a tape measure; that all depends on features. This tape has much of the standards, Nylon coated blade, Marking surface, Slide lock and this has a 8 ft. standout of the blade. Now the tip or end does not have a magnetic tip, but it is wide, so you can be looking down on the blade on the front of your work and the side of the tip hooks, that’s on both sides (the wider tip) and then there’s always the old lay it flat on your work. I found this feature very handy building a awning this past week, up on a ladder, looking over the beam, getting a measurement on the backside. Just hook the side of the tip to the end of the beam, look directly down on the face of the tape and as easy as pie mark your measurement on you piece. Love it, no more hanging way over your work, or turning the tape trying to see it.

This review is for the Empire 30’ chrome tape measure, model 300-30, which I was given a chance to check out.Empire is part of Milwaukee Tools, and the 300-30 model comes with a limited lifetime warranty.Fit and finish are excellent, the belt hook has no sharp edges and holds the measure securely on my belt but isn’t bothersome to take off. (I’ve had a couple of tape measures that had so much tension built into the belt hook that the things weren’t all that easy to remove for use; the Empire doesn’t fall into that trap). The 300-30 does not offer “autolock” on the blade; it’s a traditional slide lock. The slide lock has a position to temporarily lock the blade, and another to firmly lock the blade in position. (Of course, there’s also a “completely unlocked” position for retracting the blade into the housing). The “firmly lock” position is quite hard to engage, requiring more effort to engage than other tape measures I have. I was surprised when I first engaged the “firmly lock”; it took more force that I had expected. Retraction is nice and even – the blade doesn’t come whipping back at me. It isn’t slow, it just doesn’t whip around. Nice.Empire claims an 8 foot stand out (that is, the blade can be extended straight out to 8 feet without bending or falling); my example doesn’t quite make the 8 foot range before it bends. However, if I use one hand to help support the blade about a foot away from the housing, it can hold 8 feet. Unassisted I can extend the blade about 6 and ½ feet. The blade itself is nylon coated and feels substantial, so possibly the unit I received isn’t quite up to what Empire intended. For my usage I wouldn’t return the tape measure for the failure to hold 8’ stand out but YMMV. If it’s an important feature for you, I’d advise trying one in the store before purchasing. The blade markings are easy to read (see photo); not only are feet marked, but 16 inch distances are marked as well. I like the layout of the blade very much.On the back of the tape measure housing is a small area (1 inch x 1 ¼ inches) for penciling in measurements. This is a nifty feature, one that isn’t on any of my other tape measures. I made some notations in pencil and they were easily read and easily removed with an erasure. Nice to have if all you need to remember is a couple of numbers. Not being a professional tradesman, just a home DIY’er, I’m not into spending large amounts of money on tape measures – I don’t abuse them, but I do misplace them or loan them out and generally don’t require best-of-breed performance. The Empire 300-30 market price suits me well and the tape measure itself seems solid. It would rate a five star review except for the harder-than-necessary blade lock and the fact that I just can’t get the claimed 8 foot stand out to work without using a second hand. With the competitive market price, the Home Depot 90 day return policy, and a limited lifetime warranty, it’s a solid competitor in the tape measure world.HTHRegards,Jim
