This is a large size tape measure. It looks like it has a metal casing, but it is plastic so may not be that rugged for contractors. Other than that the quality is satisfactory. I liked the was they marked the scales on the tape. It has all different US units possible on it, which saves you from calculating smaller units. It has a spring slide on it, so the meter is automatically locked unless you press the button to release it

I have a dozen or more tape measures of all different sizes and colors and shapes around the house and of course when I need one I can’t find one and go searching everywhere. What I have found in this Empire Tape Measure I would like to have in all my tape measures, solid nylon coated tape that won’t bend, AUTOLOCK feature that makes extending the tape measure out a breeze, 8 feet with this one. Big, strong, but compact and know where it is all the time because of the metal shiny metal body and this one has a lifetime warranty, not that I’ve needed it, Because I do tend to drop things all the time and this Empire has held up Great, love this tape measure !!

The Empire 25′ Auto Lock Tape Measure, works very well and is accurate. Has great features like fractional printing,marking surface,auto lock, clip for your belt or wall and 8′ standout. I marked the marking surface with a sharpie and used a little WD-40 and came right off, so pencil or pen will be fine.I would highly recommend this product. Happy Measuring!

This tape measure is quite nice. I like the old school look of it with the chrome case, but it has a rubber bottom for better grip and handling which is nice.I really like that the fractions are on the tape and that there is a nylon coating for increased durability.This tape measure is different from most common types in that it ALWAYS locks and you need to press a button for it to return. So, essentially opposite from most others. It’s a nifty feature.There is a little piece of paper/plastic on the back that they say is for jotting down measurements – I think this is just silly but some may find it useful.The body is plastic that doesn’t seem terribly thick, and a fall from a 10 foot ladder would probably do this tape measure in. So just consider that when you make your purchase and the type of situations you will find yourself in while using this. It’s not flimsy, but not what I would call professional grade.That being said, I would not recommend for a professional or for frequent, heavy use, especially on ladder/roof, etc. work.For light, residential use or for use in a shop, this tape measure gives you everything you need.

When you pick up the tape measure you can feel that it is well built. The tape itself is nice and strong and will go out 8 feet. The marking are easy to read and the highlighted blue quarter inch marks clearly stand out for even easier use. With the included marking pad, no need to remember the measurements, instead you can write them down. The autolock is a handy feature in that the tape stays out until you want to retract it rather than the other way around.

The autolock does work great but it definitely does not stand out 8′ as it claims. May be more close to 5′. The tape bends easily as well and needs to be more stable while holding out.

I am reviewing an Empire Chrome Auto Lock Tape Measure 25ft long 500AL-25. This high quality product definitely stands out among the others. For starters, it looks very classy with its shiny chrome metal finish and weighs almost 14 ounces. This is a high quality tape measure built to last, with several great features. We all know how easy it is to drop your tape measure. Undoubtedly with this in mind, Empire tape measure features drop protection by the way of its 5 screw housing and high impact resistant case. No more annoying yellow blades; the Empire features an extra wide blade one full inch wide with protective nylon coating for the added durability, and large print against the contrasting off-white background for easy readability. All this makes it easier to read in the low light conditions and for those with vision problems. The blade has 1/8″, 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 5/8″, 3/4″, and 7/8″ increments imprinted on it in black and blue colors against a contrasting background. Easy to read fractions distinctly marked on the blade, stud markings at every 16 inches and a blade that can stand out for 8 inches along with the extra wide blade make it the best tape to use. Measurement Standard used is SAE that is common in use in the United States. Send the older types of a tape measure packing. Remember extending the blade and then trying to lock it manually, while the blade in turn tries to twist and crack? This isn’t happening here. The rigid extra wide Empire blade is auto-locking, meaning when you extend it, it will stay in place. You will have to push the button to retract it when you’re done. The blade is stiff enough to stretch out without bending. This feature makes it much easier to measure distances with one person operation. Its durable right-angled hook is triple riveted and reinforced for the added durability and longevity. It has a dual end which comes handy when measuring pull or push measurements. The top of the hook extends a bit above the blade, about 2 mm high. The tape measure is equipped with an integrated heavy duty metal belt clip on the back. The Lifetime Warranty makes it the only tape measure you’d ever need. Overall, it’s a great tool well designed and built to last.
