I recently obtained a 48 inch aluminum magnetic I-beam level. This thing is as tough as the day is long(not winter time day)! I have used it to level 4×4 posts for putting up a rail fence for a deck, well as for the 2x4s. I used it to level out a metal framed door. The strong magnet really works great!!This level fits very nice in your hand! The level is easy to read from the top and side.I love it and so would you!

Very nice level. Lots of windows so you can see the bubble from all directions. Lightweight and it even has a magnetic strip.I will probably buy its smaller version.

I only had a simple plastic 48 inch level without magnetic edge for my home use. I received this model and when laying them side-by-side, there is no comparison with weight, durability and imagined long term usability. The aluminum frame is by far superior from the start and the finish is well thought out by adding plastic bumpers on the ends for protection. As you can see the magnetic surface hold very well vertically on my refrigerator..

Good magnetic I-beam level for everyday use, and it is made is the USA, and it comes with a limited lifetime warranty. I especially like the flat-white collars that surround the vials as they reflect ambient light onto the vial making it easier to see the bubble. The non-magnetic side has a cut-out in the flange above the horizontal vial, so the bubble can be seen from directly above or below. My other levels have a similar feature but have a glass cover over the opening which gets dirty, is hard to clean, and makes reading difficult. The molded blue plastic hand grips are comfortable and the blue plastic end caps are well secured. The non-magnetic side has a 1-inch wide bearing surface; the magnetic side only has a bearing surface of ¾-inches since the magnet protrudes a few thousandths of an inch from the aluminum. This is adequate for magnetic surfaces, but the wider side should be used on other surfaces. The depth of the I-beam is 2-1/4-inches (55 mm). The magnet strength could be a little stronger to better resist it from being dislodged, for example if a door is slammed nearby. The one dislike I have is that there is only an opening on one end for hanging—and the opening is relatively small at 1-1/4 X 5/8-inches. All the other levels I own have larger openings on both ends. Other Empire levels have larger hang holes on both ends, so it seems like this would be easy to fix.

I am impressed with this 4 foot level. It is made of cast aluminum and is very well made. It is strong and twist free. The level and plumb vials are all accurate. The plastic inserts protect it and the finishes you are working on from markings. One side has a magnetic stip, which helps hold the level when working with metal. It is also for hanging or storing this 48 inch level.

Fantastic level. I have been dragging this thing all over the obsites for a few months now and it has held up great. Better than great! Very clear to read glass, no cheap plastics, quality sprits that do not froth up when its being shaken or jostled about up and down ladders. Another great feature is that it gets no expansion or contraction with shifts in temperature, its very ridged. If you work outside this is a level you want to pick up because it is a very well tool.
