This is a great level for leveling the top of the door frame, as well as the threshold. You can use it as is for 34″ and 36″ doors. For 32″ doors, you need to remove the protective end caps. (They are designed to be removed.) I like it better then a 2′ level because it gives you a better idea of where the frame or threshold needs to be tweaked to give you straight surface. This level was designed to survive on the job site. The removable end caps protect it if it lands on end, and there is extra protection for the vials. I hope I never need the protection, but I am glad it is there.

I’m a big fan of Empire products and really like the Empire levels. This E75 model is apparently a newer model that replaces the older e2G line, which I also own.The E75 design is simpler, with fewer visual frills–pretty much a basic square box level. The vials are the the same precise True Blue vials, and the two vials in each end of the level now have a simple white plastic around them. There’s no consumer-oriented markings or clutter, so I like that–it’s a functional get-the-job-done level. There are two minor things I don’t like as much with this E75 model compared to the e2G models. First, the hole to hang the level is about 6″ from the end of the level, and the hole is only 1/2″ in diameter. Trying to hang this level on the long screws where I hang my other levels is much trickier than with the e2G models, which have a larger hole built into the rubber end caps. The other minor item is that I don’t like the new end caps on the E75. They look and feel like a cheap afterthought and are only held in place by a plastic sliding clip. I personally have never had the need to remove the end caps of my levels, so the new easier removal design isn’t valuable to me, but if you do regularly remove the end caps on your level, then you will probably like this new design.Other than those two very minor items, this is a great level that works well and I really like Empire levels and measuring tools.

This is not your average homeowners level. It is very high-quality with, for example, removable rubber tips. We used it to correctly mark the brick when we installed new gutter downspouts. It was very easy to control and align precisely. I thought the actual levels were nicely protected and unlikely to easily damage. Much nicer than the usual extruded aluminum levels.

This is a great level for leveling the top of the fence rail, the door frame, as well as the threshold. This level is well built and very accurate. It has superior features and for anyone who uses a level, especially if you use one frequently, this is the go to brand. One of the features that we particularly like in a level, is to be able to see the actual level component from the top.

This 32-inch Box level, Model E75-32 is made by the Empire Company, a leader in tool manufacturing. Unlike many tools on the market, this Empire level is a well built, precision instrument well worth the money. It is professional quality that both the contractor and the DIY will find easy to use. It sports an all metal aluminum frame and it precision milled edges both at the top and the bottom providing a choice of top or bottom scribing. The thickness of the frame gives one the impression that this a strong, sturdy level that should last a long time. Yet its relatively light weight permits continuous use without tiring effort. The manufacture states that the level has an accuracy “to within 0.0005 in./inch in all working positions”– for the user it means “perfectly level” and I Empire not to make false claims. The precision machined top and bottom edges extend uninterrupted the entire length of the frame permitting one to scribe or draw a straight line over its entire length without the irregularities cast into many other levels. Two vials are set into the level – one at the top and one at the bottom. Both are easy to read and both are etched with evenly spaced lines that aid in determining the amount of “off-level” pitch or grade being measured. A unique feature of this level is the placement of the center vial. It is set just below the top edge so it does not need a protective top. This setting permits the vial to be easily read from either side and from the top. The manufacturer claims a “300° viewing window” and I call it a most welcomed design element. This feature alone makes this level a value buy. The level is also equipped with protective shock absorbing end caps designed to minimize damage if dropped. The endcaps are removable although I had a difficult time removing them but others with stronger hands will probably find them much easier to remove. When removed the user is provided with a continuous straight edge the entire length of the frame and can be used when circumstances such as the need for scribing a line directly into a wall or door corner demand. The DIY should keep in mind that with the end caps removed the length of the level decreases to 30½ inches – the length of the metal frame. A separate handing hole is provided at one end of the level for easy work bench storage.
