The Empire EM70.10 True Blue heavy-duty torpedo levels features a tough all metal frame to stand up to tough jobsite conditions. High strength rare earth magnets deliver a strong hold to metal materials. The em70.10 also features a top ruler and pipe groove that is compatible with any straight edge to extend the working surface for measuring and scribing, while surface grip provides stability against any material. e-Band vials highlight the meniscus of the bubble to prove a clear reading at plumb and 45° and level. The main body appears to be brushed aluminum with formed plastic inserts to hold the batteries, the leveling vials and the LED light system. There is also a convenient power button which turns on the LED light in one vial, selects the other vial if pressed again and also turns it off, after holding the button in for a couple seconds.The built-in rare-earth magnets are strong and there are three of them on one main flat side of the level. The other flat side has a cutout to allow viewing the horizontal level from the edge. That side also has a groove cut in its length The LEDs make the vials extremely easy to read. I particularly liked the bright blue vial light to match the blue and aluminum color scheme.There are a few notes on the packaging that are a little confusing. One is that there is a groove to allow working against a pipe or conduit, and another is that there is a straight-edge slot. I could not figure which was which because there was only one slot along one flat side. Since that is opposite the magnetic side, it will not stick to a metallic pipe or conduit. However, by holding it against a pipe one could feel slight a sweet spot where it seemed to line up with the pipe. I could find no place for a straight-edge.The packaging also noted that there is a UV-activated optical brightener, but failed to explain what, where and how.The battery cover sticks out to supposedly allow a good grip, but I found that to be unnecessary. However, it does stop it from sliding on a smooth surface on that side, and that could be handy.Overall Thoughts:LEDs are all the rage, and for good reasons. They bring light to a whole slew of possible applications, and lighting up a level vial is a perfect fit.Attractive in coloring and design, this level feels good in the hand. It is obvious that it can take a lot of abuse and still protect the inner workings quite well.One won’t go wrong with this little level. You’ll want to keep it in your pocket all the time.

The Empire True Blue 10″ Magnetic Torpedo Level accuracy and visibility is great. Was exactly what we were looking for. Empire offers superior quality products. It is made in the US and was at a great price. This level uses embedded rare earth magnets instead of the weaker magnetic strips. You can’t hurt yourself buying Empire, they’re solid and reasonably priced.

The Empire True Blue torpedo level is a great little level. At 10 inches, it fits easily into most any tool bag or box. In your hand, it feels well made, solid and substantial without being heavy. Because it’s magnetic, it frees up both hands for work when leveling metal objects like appliances. The bubbles are highly visible, leaving no doubt when you find the right position. Another piece of the well-thought-out design is the ruler groove in the top, which holds a ruler in place when you’re making multiple marks at precise intervals on a level line. Surfaces are machined making this a highly accurate level and you can always be certain of its accuracy.I also found comfort in the fact that the Empire level is made in the USA.
