Description
Compact, wireless, and designed for high resolution photos, Epson’s PictureMate PM-400 Personal Photo Lab uses MicroPiezo inkjet technology to create detailed prints at 5760 x 1440 dpi at up to 5 x 7″, ideal for your snapshots and family pictures. It works with 3.5 x 5″, 4 x 6″, and 5 x 7″ paper, as well as No. 10 envelopes, for producing your most common and convenient photo sizes. Also, it is capable of producing a 4 x 6″ photo in about 36 seconds.
On top of all this, it offers borderless printing, Auto Photo Correction, and thanks to a 2.7″ LCD and SD card slot it can function without a computer. Mobile printing is an option with Wi-Fi Direct and this works with a wide variety of different protocols, including Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print.
The PM-400 can hold up to 50 sheets of plain paper for documents or 20 sheets of thicker glossy photo paper. There is also an option for single sheets up to 23.6 mil for more specialized media. Additionally, for connection you can either plug in using a USB 2.0 cable or connect the printer to the network using Wi-Fi.

I have had 4 picturemate printers and have enjoyed everyone. I like the picturemate 400 as it can print 5×7 and built in wireless. I print a lot a church functions and the kids are amazed. I hope they come out with a carring case soon.

I had an older, Sony dye sublimation printer but couldn’t print 5×7’s or get photos off my phone. I like to send pictures to family and friends and those special shots often need 5×7 format. This Epson is fast and produces very good quality photos. The combo pack with ink and paper is very reasonably priced too. Happy with my purchase. I’d love it if I could drop the photos in the mailbox. The plastic coating on the dye sublimation photos (with postcard ready graphics) was nice feature. The Sony is small enough to pack in your suitcase but still happy I went with new Epson instead.

So this is my 3rd Picturemate and it is by far the worst. Not nearly as user friendly and it doesn’t allow for as much photo editing as my earlier models. The option to adjust brightness or contrast is gone from this “new” model and there are not as many photo layout options either with my favorite 3×3 option gone. Another annoying feature is when printing photos on half of the photo paper, it will only allow one photo per sheet. What a waste! As far as picture quality, my old Charm produced brighter, crisper images. So dissatisfied. I hope Epson does a better job with their next models or I will be looking elsewhere.
