Description
Compact, wireless, and designed for high resolution photos, Epson’s PictureMate PM-400 Personal Photo Lab uses MicroPiezo inkjet technology to create detailed prints at 5760 x 1440 dpi at up to 5 x 7″, ideal for your snapshots and family pictures. It works with 3.5 x 5″, 4 x 6″, and 5 x 7″ paper, as well as No. 10 envelopes, for producing your most common and convenient photo sizes. Also, it is capable of producing a 4 x 6″ photo in about 36 seconds.
On top of all this, it offers borderless printing, Auto Photo Correction, and thanks to a 2.7″ LCD and SD card slot it can function without a computer. Mobile printing is an option with Wi-Fi Direct and this works with a wide variety of different protocols, including Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print.
The PM-400 can hold up to 50 sheets of plain paper for documents or 20 sheets of thicker glossy photo paper. There is also an option for single sheets up to 23.6 mil for more specialized media. Additionally, for connection you can either plug in using a USB 2.0 cable or connect the printer to the network using Wi-Fi.

I purchased this product due to an assignment that required shooting and providing 4×6 images immediately. Product worked well (wirelessly and tethered). Produced beautiful images. My only problem is that the ink is not available locally. For some of my assignments, it is difficult to predict how much ink I will need. I would like to run out to a local photo or office supply store and get the ink as needed rather than have to order (and wait).I am afraid to over buy as the ink may become out dated.

The picture mate pm-400 is a wonderful printer, that prints 5 x 7 fast and has remarkable color. The only problem that I have found with this model is that none of the stores carry the ink for this product, which is a real disappointment. The only way to get the ink is to order it, so if you plan on getting this printer be sure to stock up on ink. Now the problem with that is that they say you should have ink that you are not using for a certain period of time, so if you bad more ink, it could go bad and if you don’t buy extra ink you may run out when you need it.

I bought this printer to use in charity work on a small, poverty-stricken Caribbean island that has no photo printing services. The robust design survived pressure changes of high-altitude flights without cartridge leaks, as well as sand, heat, and humidity, alternating with excessive air conditioning. It produced well-calibrated color from jpegs the first time, every time. I was able to print over 100 5×7’s at one sitting, using less ink than I expected, despite “max quality” settings. I’d recommend this to anyone printing snapshots under difficult conditions.

I’ve had this for about 9 months and it’s perfect for our photo booth events! We print double strips on 4 by 6 paper and cut it in half for 2 separate strips. This is easily Portable, wireless and prints edge to edge perfectly and quickly! I do wish there was an option to adjust brightness. The pictures seemed to print slightly darker and not as crisp at our last event and darker brown skin tones appeared to have a slight gray tint. I haven’t noticed this previously. It wasn’t anything highly noticeable to others but since I see the photos print all the time I definitely noticed. Other than that, it’s been great!

Quick hit, just use the USB cable setup option. The wireless setup instructions and software are next to useless. I wasted hours trying to get it to work and I’m a retired engineer. Not fond of the build quality. I’d suggest not to load the utility programs, they are particularly useless. I miss my old Photomate. That was a solid piece of hardware.

Amazing printer for its size. Love the app that allows me to customize the photo size and more. I have a Selphy & a small HP and neither compare. My only complaint would be print cost- seems higher at around 33-35 cents a print. I will only use it for collage prints to get multiple prints at a time
