Get printing, scanning, copying, and faxing with the wireless EcoTank Pro ET-5850 All-in-One Cartridge-Free Supertank Printer from Epson. A great addition to any home or small office, the EcoTank Pro system uses large ink reservoirs instead of cartridges, allowing it to hold more ink and make refills more affordable. The mobile-ready printer comes with enough ink for 15,000 black prints and 12,000 color prints. Printing quality is excellent as well, with a four-color ink set and a print resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi contributing to its ability to create sharp and vivid documents. Users demanding speed will also be pleased with the unit’s simplex print speed of 25ppm for both black and color documents, and duplex print speeds are almost as fast at an impressive 21 ppm for both black and color documents.
Two 250-sheet input trays work with documents up to 8.5 x 14″, and a long-document mode on the rear feed enables the production of media up to 8.5 x 47.2″. For scanning and copying, the unit has an 8.5 x 11.7″ flatbed scanner that allows scans up to 8.5 x 14″ with the ADF, and optical scan resolution is an impressive 1200 dpi. Settings can be checked and quickly changed via the 4.3″ color touchscreen, and for maximum versatility during setup, the ET-5850 is equipped with USB 2.0, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Additionally, mobile printing is made possible via Apple AirPrint, Mopria, Epson Connect Email Print, and the Epson iPrint Mobile App.

This is not a review of BH Photo, they delivered the product as advertised and on time, 5 stars for them. This printer jams more than any printer I have ever owned. It will print half on one sheet and then pull a second sheet and start printing the other half on it. Double-sided printing? forget it. This printer will pull a sheet from the middle of the stack when it should have been printed on both sides. What I might have saved in ink is now ZERO because I have to reprint so many times, not including the cost of the extra paper.

Works well. Meets expectations. Would recommend.

Way faster compare to previous Epson printers we have and still use Eco Tank inks

This all-in-one replaced a 10 year old Epson with similar features except for replacement of cartridges with bottled ink. All aspects are improvements over the earlier model. Two paper trays can handle many paper formats. We are using letter and legal paper. The initial ink load was straightforward and without mess – it was impossible to put the wrong color in accidentally as the cartridges are keyed differently. This printer uses pigment-based rather than dye-based inks which I believe retains color density better. We have not been using the printer for photographs so I cannot comment on that aspect. The ink levels can be visually checked, but the downloaded software can give more precise information. I chose this model for my wife based on my 3 year experience with an ET-16500 (my printer)which differs mostly due to 11×14 scan and print capabilities and dye-based inks. Note that the head-cleaning deposits ink in a replaceable maintenance box which must be replaced when full. The process is easy, but I recommend purchasing at least one replacement box long before you expect to need it. Do check the test page occasionally and clean the heads as needed. If the printer is lightly used then I suspect cleaning may be even more necessary based on earlier printer experience.

I purchased 2 of these for my small business hoping to cut down the cost of toner for my existing all-in-one units. What a mistake. Pros: 1. Ink lasts a long time and it is easy to fill 2. Nice interface on the touchscreen 3. Scanning via the computer interface is smooth and simple 4. Connection to my LAN was great and able to set a static IP address 5. Two paper trays 6. Print quality is pretty decent but doesn’t match laser Cons: 1. Paper handling is TERRIBLE. If printing more than a 1 page document it will more often than not (greater than 90% of the time) grab multiple sheets of paper and either print a blank sheet or have print on about an inch of text on one page and then continue on the next. This is a deal breaker for printing multiple page documents and wastes a significant amount of paper and time. 2. Duplex printing is extremely slow and not reliable because of paper handling. See Cons #1 3. Duplex scanning is tedious I do a lot of research on products before purchasing and I typically take negative reviews with a grain of salt because often time it is buyers remorse or user error. However, I wish I would have taken the bad reviews to heart because I’m stuck with 2 VERY expensive paperweights that I can pretty much only print single page documents with. If Epson could get the paper handling issues resolved this would be a pretty fantastic machine!!

It advertises that you can scan to Google Drive through their Scan to Cloud service… but fail to mention it does not work with Google Workspace versions of Google Drive… only the personal My Drive. Control panel interface is archaic. It takes 8 taps to start a scan to a specified cloud location. There are no direct options for resolution or compression. The print quality is good, but the print controller has almost no ability to customize either. This is a terrible device. I bought it as an upgrade to my HP Officejet x586 and instead I’ve already mothballed the Epson and started using the HP again.

I am a (formerly) loyal HP customer. I’ve always had HP printers/scanners. I made the decision to get this printer because the ink on my HP Color Laser was averaging $800 every 6 months, which is absolutely ridiculous. I chose this model after reading Consumer Reports and learning the EcoTanks have fabulous quality and INEXPENSIVE ink. And it’s TRUE. This is not a color laser, but the quality has been GREAT and I’m so glad I made the decision. Also, ink level is so easy to see on the front panel and filling the tanks is easy and no mess.
