I love the depth of color, particularly black, and the weight of the paper. The feel of the paper always gets a comment. I’m just learning how to show-case my shots. I think printing on this paper is a step in the right direction.

has a great color gamut and deep black. a beautiful surface for fine art prints. only problem is the surface is incredibly delicate, must be stored or matted with great care.

I absolutely love Epson’s Velvet Fine Art Paper for the work I do. Because the paper absorbs ink, images made on Velvet have a perceptible depth to them, much like my platinum prints from film. Also, this paper yields beautiful, velvety (appropriately enough) blacks and vivid colors. I use it for landscape photography, as well as portraiture and still lifes, and it makes a beautiful base for black and white prints, giving them a completely different feel from those make on glossy paper. The paper has a subtle texture that’s not at all obtrusive and actually accentuates most prints. The only downside to this paper is that there’s not an obvious face or back side, but it must be printed on the face side. I keep track by only removing one sheet at a time from the inner package and keeping it with the seal side up, which means the face side is always up, too.

I use this paper to make prints of my own drawings and it gives the prints a clean and professional finish. Highly recommend for at-home art printing! Worth every penny.

I use a Epson R2400 to print on Velvet Fine Art paper for resale. I find this paper’s unique characteristic of high bright white base to give me color clarity my clients like. I find it’s high D-Max (contrast and rich blacks) that makes the image pop, while at the same time not losing detail on my moody, subtlely lit images. It’s weight and instatnt drying ability makes post printing handling much easier.

I’ve been using this paper for my fine art exhibit prints for at least four years. Every time I try another paper, I keep coming back to the Velvet. I get the details I want in the shadows. The colors, tonal range and the blacks are the best I’ve been able to achieve on my Epson 2200. And what I see on my display is almost always what I see on my print. I’ve also experienced no flaking as I hear some complain about other mat papers.

If you use this product correctly, with high end ink, printer, formating, and color corrected monetor this paper will shine every time. Literally! This is not a glossy paper, but it doesn’t need to be. If there is any metal or reflective surfice in your image somehow the paper helps it to actually appear glossy and metalic like. The only thing that is difficult with this paper is that any oil from your fingers will stay on the paper. Make sure you wear archival gloves when touching any part of the paper or your print will br ruined.

This paper was like printable coldpress watercolor paper in terms of absorbency, texture and weight. It was almost too textured for what I wanted. I’m printing with an Epson Photo 1400 and then painting back into my surfaces. The printed color is true and very rich, it also takes my paint well. Only 4 stars because I prefer a smoother surface.

Amazing paper for anything from landscapes to portraits. Reproduces black tones very well and colors very vividly. I mainly use this paper for portraits in my portfolio.

I have compared several of the matte finish papers from Epson. When test images were printed (Epson P900) with identical settings; all of the papers appeared the same. The composition of most of the matte papers tested were very similar with differences relating to composition (alpha cellulose or cotton), the presence of optical brightening agents (OBA’s), and thickness (ranging from 13 to 23 mils). The Velvet Fine Art compared very favorably and was the lowest in cost compared to the other products.
