this is my favorite paper for printing high quality prints of my photos. I sell these to customers and they are very impressed with the weight and texture of the paper. It takes color and detail very well and is a pleasure to work with. I use it for 17×22, 13×19 and 8×10 prints.

This paper does have texture that I find pleasing to the touch and can be felt by gloves, in producing a mild friction. I cannot comment on pastel colors, as yet.

I absolutely love Epson’s Velvet Fine Art Paper for the work I do. Because the paper absorbs ink, images made on Velvet have a perceptible depth to them, much like my platinum prints from film. Also, this paper yields beautiful, velvety (appropriately enough) blacks and vivid colors. I use it for landscape photography, as well as portraiture and still lifes, and it makes a beautiful base for black and white prints, giving them a completely different feel from those make on glossy paper. The paper has a subtle texture that’s not at all obtrusive and actually accentuates most prints. The only downside to this paper is that there’s not an obvious face or back side, but it must be printed on the face side. I keep track by only removing one sheet at a time from the inner package and keeping it with the seal side up, which means the face side is always up, too.

I use this paper for fine art prints. It has a nice texture and a good weight at 260 gsm. I formerly used Hahnemuhle William Turner 190 gsm paper, which I like very much. The Velvet paper is heavier, with similar qualities to the William Turner. I buy the 17 x 22 sheets and cut them to 11 x 17 for most of my prints. The result is an equally fine quality paper at a lower cost than the Hahnemuhle William Turner. I am very pleased. I think Epson has some of the finest papers available today.

If you use this product correctly, with high end ink, printer, formating, and color corrected monetor this paper will shine every time. Literally! This is not a glossy paper, but it doesn’t need to be. If there is any metal or reflective surfice in your image somehow the paper helps it to actually appear glossy and metalic like. The only thing that is difficult with this paper is that any oil from your fingers will stay on the paper. Make sure you wear archival gloves when touching any part of the paper or your print will br ruined.

This is the most professional grade paper I’ve used. The images dried relatively quickly, and it enhanced the color of the images. It’s great for framing.
