This 24″ x 50′ roll of UltraSmooth Fine Art Archival Photo Inkjet Paper from Epson is an acid-free 100% cotton hot press paper. This cylinder mould-made media features an ultra-smooth finish, and is optimized for Epson Photographic Dye, Epson UltraChrome, and Epson Archival Ink. The paper is not only acid, lignin, and chlorine-free, it is also pH-buffered with calcium carbonate for long-term archival stability.

I have an Epson P900 17 wide printer. I hand cut the paper with a square. However, because of the curve of the paper, it would not load. I used the front load, fine art tray and the first sheet crumpled in the printer. I used the rear load, also failed to load. I do not have the attachment for roll paper – although the curve of the rolled paper would likely be a problem there, as well. We finally wrapped it in a reverse curve around a piece of pvc pipe and got it pretty flat. It again failed in the front and rear load. With my husbands help, lifting the feeder gently, we were able to get a print. The print looked great and the paper was great – the printer was the problem. Just be aware of the heavy curvature of the rolled paper.

I have been hoping that Epson would produce a semimatte fine art paper that was worth using. This is not it. This might be the ugliest paper I have ever used. Drab, lifeless and much more matte than expected. I wasted my money. Plan on just giving it away.

I tried a bunch of papers when I first started making my own inkjet prints. I settled on USFAP and have never regretted it. The paper has a brilliance and color fidelity that you can depend on. You can’t do better.

This is my preferred paper for final exhibition prints, heavy weight, acid-free, and I love the surface which is matte, but smooth, not velvety. Its not ultra-white–I wouldn’t call it ivory, but even Epson Enhanced Matte (which I use for preliminary prints) is very slightly whiter.
