This was my first use of an Epson fine art paper. In the course of the past 50 years of my work I have used most of the established fine art papers for watercolor, pen & ink, pencil and even pen plotted drawings. Usage has ranged from Arches for watercolor and Strathmore for pen & ink. With the advent of high quality digital printing I was not aware that Epson had managed to have a fine art quality paper tailored for compatibility with their printers. This paper has exceeded my expectation and I will re-order the paper.

I print images with highly saturated colors and solid black areas. This paper is the best I have found for this purpose. I tested many different papers before choosing Velvet Fine Art. This paper does prints the richest blacks.

I use it for both color and black/white images on an Epson printer. Terrific results.

Epson seems to always have a matte finish paper that compares well with other company’s usually more expensive offerings. Velvet Fine Art has been around for a while but it never really hit my radar until recently. I normally use Hot Press Natural because I like the smooth matte surface and the thickness and weight. HPN also is OBA-free so it should remain exactly as printed for decades to come if treated well. Velvet Fine Art gets pretty good Wilhelm ratings for archivability using Epson’s Ultrachrome K3 pigment inks, my standard setup. VFA is a little thinner and lighter than HPN. It does have some OBAs but it appears to be a minimal amount since the whites are not super bright. The matte surface of VFA is a little more textured than HPN’s smoother finish. Velvet Fine Art costs a little less than Hot Press Natural as well. So I gave VFA a try with some photos I had previously printed on HPN and Canson Rag Photographique (a paper that looks an awful lot like HPN but costs an awful lot more). Truthfully, the only difference I could detect was the thickness of the paper and the very slight increase in brightness and surface texture. Colors were identical, using the same print settings for Lightroom (increasing sharpness, brightness and contrast for matte paper). I still prefer Hot Press Natural for the weight and thickness but Velvet Fine Art has now found a place in my regular paper supply for both the look and the economy.

Very nice mid-priced paper for fine art prints. I like the deep matte blacks and richness of color, this looks better than the price level. The textured surface enhances some of the more impressionistic, abstract landscape images I printed. It is too textured for portraits, however.

Wonderful Fine Art Matte paper provides deep and rich tones for color and clear black and white. This papers is not an all purpose paper like glossy. It can give a very nice older look to photographs. There are some pictures better on glossy and some better on Matte.

I am using this with an Epson 3880 printer and have had excellent and consistent results from the start. the paper takes the ink very well and the color and detail are excellent. be aware that there is a piece of cardboard on the top of each pack and you will create a mess if you print on it by accident… I did…

I have been using Epson Velvet fine art paper for the past few years. The prints turn out beautifully when I set Epson artisan 1430 standard as the printer profile in Photoshop and use Ultra Premium Presentation Matte or Premium Presentation Matte as the paper option(Velvet fine art paper is not listed as a paper option in Artisan 1430 printer properties). The colors are very vivid and the printing outcome is sharp. Very happy with the product.

Everything I thought it would be. Beautiful texture, feels great in the hand, excellent color and deep blacks. Has worked well in my Epson 2400 right from the start. Great paper for the price.

This paper has been the best I’ve ever used. I make prints from my original art and print on a home printer. With this paper, the colors resulting from my ink-jet printer are amazing. NOTE: with this paper it’s especially important to use the ‘correct’ side – the difference in the printed color is notable. I buy the larger format because it’s the most versatile; I can cut the sheets down into whatever size I need.

I have tried several different types of paper and this Epsom velvet fine art paper is by far the best paper. The texture is fabulous, the color is clear and bright, perfect thickness. I feel confident in using this paper to sell my art prints. Only thing is that I wish it was sold in 11X17 or 5 X 7

I print using either Hahnemuhle German Etching paper if I want a textured paper or Epson Velvet Fine Art for a finer surface. Epson Velvet loads easily into my Epson 4880 is a perfect weight, and the prints turn out looking wonderful. I’ve tried cheaper papers like Moab’s Kayenta and was not happy. Epson Velvet is worth the extra money.
