IuUpgraded to this from an old HP DesignJet 130. I’ve always been annoyed with HP’s business practices and support, so went with Epson and haven’t been disappointed. It’s fast, quiet, well-built, and well-priced. And vastly more up-to-date tech than the old DesignJet.

These days, as much as anything Epson printer seem to be designed primarily to waste as much ink as possible. One we worked through several paper jams when the paper was not jammed, the printer would not move without doing a print head clean, which takes about 10% of the capacity of each ink cartridge – about $16 worth of ink. We had great hope – and a lot of work scheduled – for this printer but it looks like we’ll need a bank loan to keep it running. We also had great hope for our XP15000, which is now sitting in the closet.

This printer is easy to set up and the print quality is exceptional! I previously had the Epson R3000 and it was a great printer but this one is way better!! Gorgeous colors and up 24″ prints for less than $900 shipped! Very happy with my purchase from B&H

This printer had to be replaced with new one. Terrible service. Took two weeks to get replacement.

After being frustrated by the local print shops refusing to print on my own 24 paper, I managed to negotiate this new printer with my wife. My old Epson R2400 is getting a little worn out and only prints 13 wide. My project required a 24×30 print. Reading reviews and articles about this and other wide format printers, the only adverse comment I saw for the T2170 were complaints about feeding paper. With plenty of experience arguing with recalcitrant printers, I took the plunge and purchased this one. Surprise with the size and weight of the new printer had me a little worried if it would fit in my computer room. This is a BIG printer, nearly 3′ wide and 1 1/2′ deep, I couldn’t put it where I had originally planned (I should have bought the stand too.) After rearranging things and finishing setup, I tried my first print. I had no problems feeding roll paper, and very little with cut sheets. The printer is very fussy about skew when loading, but if you carefully follow the guides, it goes in cleanly, even with an unevenly cut leading edge. The automatic cutter took care of that on the first print. Prints were excellent and well worth the price. It is much more convenient to feed cut sheets from the back rather than the front of the printer, so be sure to leave some room, or put it on a moveable stand of some kind. I consider this printer well worth the price for someone who needs the width. I can’t wait to try a really big panoramic print!

This is my first large-format printer so I was looking for something that could make good full-color prints that wasn’t crazy expensive. I was a little hesitant to go with a printer with only 4 colors since my other Epson printer is 6 but I printed a few movie posters to test things out and they looked great! One thing to note: the 100′ Magic Siena paper I ordered with the printer is too heavy out of the box so I had to remove enough paper for the roll to be flush with the top edge of the paper stops. Then everything worked perfectly.

I highly recommend this printer. The ease of set up, the quality of the prints are fantastic and the speed is excellent!

It’s a given that modern ink jet printers are designed to waste as much ink as possible – and this printer is no exception – but with the Epson TC-2170, even the paper loading is nearly impossible. To load standard roll paper it generally take 10-20 attempts before it finally decides the paper is loaded correctly. This is with new rolls, old rolls, anything. With roll photo paper, it’s a half day job, 40-60 attempts minimum. One of these days someone’s going to have enough and put this thing out the window. We’ve had experience with all sorts of large format printers over the years and this one is the worst. If you ever get the paper loaded, it does print OK but we could practically do the drawings by hand in the time it takes to get it to accept paper. Epson needs to get it’s act together.
