i’ve had bad luck with epson printers in the past, but i had to purchase an Artisan 50 in order to print directly onto DVDs. I’ve been very pleased with the quality and durability of the printer and it’s cartridges. The color and print quality of these cartridges are quite good. I’ve also been pleased with their lifespan. All cartridges are pricey, but I feel that these are a fair value compared to the other (Canon) printers I use.

Remember that free printer you got with the laptop…this is the ink for it. I use it for party prints and it works well on Speed settings. Not quite a high end pro quality, but a nice alternative to using the big printer for everyday prints/copies.

As a photojournalist, I often need to burn CDs for clients. I use an Epson Artisan 50 inkjet printer and printable CDs. From experience, I’ve learned that third party ink is problematic and therefore false economy. Therefore, I now use only genuine superior Epson ink in my printer because it’s… well… superior. Besides, a trouble free printer saves time and time is money. Hence… ink cost justified!

I have tried other after market ink systems for Epson printers. The stress is not worth the cost. There may be only a few ink manufactures, but Epson knows how to deliver a consistent product with their supplier. Not cheap, but it works every time.
