I use this with the Estwing Blacksmith hammer (sort of like a wedge and hammer) to make kindling from larger logs and it works great. With the flat back, a sledge or blacksmith hammer makes for an easy job. Has a sharp edge and is very ergonomic. You won’t be disappointed.

Really nice splitting hatchet. Enough heft to split medium+ sized pieces. It’s a bit heavy just to hold it but swinging it shows just how much the weight helps. Came with a nice edge on it. And with a holster / blade guard as well. Not really anything of equivalent quality in this price range.
