Soft metal on the head and the handle is curved to the side. Doesn’t hold an edge long at all. Being soft you’d expect no chips but the head chipped within a few afternoons of chopping. I’ve been using it for chopping and splitting and it does it’s job as a beginner axe. I would recommend this to beginners only, to beat up and learn how to swing an axe. You will soon outgrow this axe and will likely want something that holds an edge and cuts better.

Before it was pain to chop, it becomes a fun to do that. Highly recommended to any camper who needs a nice axe.

The was very sharp when I purchased. I used it to hack at the roots of a large crape myrtle during removal of the entire root ball. It’s very well balanced and lite enough to use in one hand. Very pleased!

Excellent all around axe! I think it will outlive me. The belt sheath is nice for hiking and the handle length is perfect for knocking down dead limbs. Out of all axes I’ve used this is my favorite and also the most durable.

The aluminum handle was a plus for splitting wood with a mallet.
