As always Estwing products are very well constructed. This “axe” is well balanced and easy to use. It is the same length as my 22 oz. framing hammer. I think that calling this an axe is an overstatement, it is more a long handled hatchet but it does the work that I ask of it.

This is a very tuff tool, you could use it to cut stone if you wanted to. It seems like Estwing is mass producing these to keep up with demand. It came very unrefined, needed a lot of work on the cutting edges with a file to get them right, the finish (paint) is very uneven. But over all a nice axe. Heavy (not to heavy) cut deep but did not get stuck, worked well to cut down standing trees and large logs; splits like a champ. Not as good for refined stuff like carving. Definitely no need to worry about breaking or bending the handle, it doubles as a pry bar. The sheath, well it covers the axe head anyways, its kind of clumsy to use. Would have gave five stars just not used to Estwing products leaving the factory sloppy.
