I was looking for a machete that would be convenient for simple clean-up of some wooded land on my property as well as hiking and camping. What drove me towards this machete is the saw teeth on the backside which is great for camping as I no longer need to carry an additional camp saw. This tool is one solid piece of steel – the handle is a rubber grip that feels like it was sprayed on (not sure how it is actually constructed, but best I can tell the grip would never slide off the end or loosen like a golf club handle can). Swinging the tool feels very balanced – the combination of that and the comfortable handle make using the machete easy. The machete also comes with a nice carrying case with a button closure (better than a Velcro closure in my opinion).

The blade seems to be made of good tough steel which has held a good edge so far; probably need to sharpen it a couple times per “season,” which I would define as spring & summer for the uses we’d put it to in Idaho. The serrated side of the blade is useful on branches 1″ in diameter or less; not so handy for anything bigger–get a hacksaw or regular saw for those jobs. The rubberized handle has a good grip–stays firmly in your hand even when wet or (more common around our high desert) covered with fine dust. The machete is well balanced, when either chopping or sawing. The scabbard seems made of a durable cloth (haven’t had it long enough to be sure), with good stitching all around and reinforcement by metal grommets. Has a belt loop which could come in handy in some situations, but this definitely is too big to be a hiking knife, for example.

I was immediately impressed with the rugged Made in the USA quality of the Black Machete. It comes with a weather resistant powder coated finish and a slip resistant handle. The heavy duty sheath is also very well made. All the seams are taped and stitched as well as reinforced with steel rivets. I have found it to be excellent for the campsite or back yard. It has a well-balanced, sharp, heavy blade resulting in a compact machete for clearing brush, trimming branches, chopping or any heavy cutting. The only con I found is the saw back will take some sharpening to remove the heavy finish.

Feels nice in the hand, love the handle. Feels more like a large knife than machete, but I’m still happy with the purchase. Not sure of the offset teeth as far as using for sawing. Deducted a star for excessive rubbery finish which I needed to remove by hand with some sandpaper along the saw spine and off some of the blade surface.

Heavy duty all the way. I own lots of Estwing tools. Sharpens up very well. A bit heavy for a shaving tool but It will get that sharp. Very satisfied.

This machete is fantastic! Its made of American steel by Estwing so I’m guessing it is going to last for many generations. I have not been able to determine what steel type (D2, CPM, 440C, etc) it is made of, but I have no doubt about its capabilities. It’s nice & heavy, and would take a lot of force to break it.It has a regular blade on one side and a saw blade on the opposite side. The majority of the blade has a finish on it to prevent corrosion. The handle has the Estwing rubber molded grip which makes it more comfortable to wack down branches & vegetation. I hacked through some branches just as easily as sawing through them. I love this thing! It also comes with a nylon sheath. There is a belt loop on the sheath and also a strap to secure the machete in the sheath. It’s black, it looks awesome, and has “Estwing” embroidered on the sheath. My only worry is that I can see the saw blade teeth eating up the little protective leather strip on the edge of the sheath. This thing is huge! I have attached a picture to comparison between a regular sized pocket knife, a full size Kabar (which is fairly large for a knife), and the Estwing machete. Incredible piece of steel! I can’t say enough good things about it!

When the product first arrived, and you get through the packaging, you can quickly tell you have a quality product on your hands. When you hold the machete it has a good weight, evenly distributed, and has a texture that gives it a great grip. The blade comes quite sharp but could see it needing to be sharpened after use. Overall I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a great machete for all your outdoors needs.

Could have had a better edge but otherwise I’m happy with my purchase.

This is a small, but good machete. I like the balance of it and it’s very easy to use. You can balance it around the hilt and rotate it as you swing to get maximum cutting force. The steel seems pretty strong too as I was able to cut through some thick, hardwood branches with only a couple of strikes. This machete doesn’t seem to wear you out either. i got started cutting some brush and before I knew it I had cleaned out every bed around my whole house. Nice tool!

The Estwing Machete is different from the machetes I have used in the past. It has a more substantial weight and comes with a high quality nylon sheath. The rubber handle ensures a comfortable grasp and is securely attached to the shaft. The blade is thick, short, with a smooth blade and a saw side, and made of dense high quality, forged U.S. Steel. I went right ahead and first used it to cut some palm leaves. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to cut the palm with one single strike of the blade. I had to use the saw side of the blade to completely detach it. The same happened when working on a shrub. It appeared that the new blade was not completely sharpened. Maybe this was done for safety reasons. After I sharpened the blade, it did a better job. The saw side worked very well from the beginning. Overall, I came to the conclusion that this machete is more like a knife than a standard machete. If you are looking for the usual light weight machete you may want to look for another brand. However, I can imagine it would work very well for other applications such as hunting and butchering.

This is unusual among machetes, at least those that I’ve encountered. It’s a very hard, single piece of forged steel, somewhat shorter in the blade and denser than most machetes. It has a rubber handle directly adhered to the shaft, and is quite comfortable.Out of the box, it was not sharpened–or rather, it seemed sharpened, but had a burr that needed to be removed by some final sharpening. Once that was completed, however, it was quite sharp and holds its sharpness well.I’m in Florida, and mostly got this for landscaping around the yard. it does well cutting through vines and trimming plants. It can cut through palms and softer hardwoods up to about an inch thick quite easily. It does not deal with hardwood very well, and the saw on the opposite side of the blade is a joke–not sharp at all and not effective. But overall, the blade is very serious, and makes a great addition to your normal landscaping tools. And it will definitely be my go-to weapon in the coming zombie apocalypse.

This machete is made in the USA and appears to be really well built. It has a regular blade on one side and a saw blade on the other. This could be really handy for a camping or hunting trip. It is also good for hacking down some weeds in the back yard. It also comes with a sheath that you can put on your belt. It also has a soft handle that is molded well with the steel part. It also looks cool as it is all black.

So far so good. Did not have the powder coated finish shown in the picture though so that’s why I rated 4 out of 5 stars. Other than that typical East wing product.

The Forged steel is solid and sharp! This is An excellent chopper. I can use two hands on The handle. It has great balance. It made short work of overgrown brush! It comes with an excellent sheath. This is my favorite knife/machete! Zombies beware!

This is a really great product! The machete has a nice heavy weight to it making it feel very substantial. The handle is padded giving it a comfortable grip. The blade is very sharp, and the other side is serrated. The tip is also very sharp! The case is very rigid and has a belt loop for easy accessibility, and also safety. It is really nicely made, very heavy duty. I have used it to chop branches off of my trees and it did not dull the blade much at all. And beyond its usefulness it is also very attractive. It looks tough!

I was looking for a machete that would hold up to cuting some paths out to my stands pre-season and quite frankly couldn’t find any that looked like they would hold up. That’s when I came across this one. It cuts very well I used it to cut small branches and brush and it worked great! The saw works good as well. The thing is built like a tank! I HIGHLY recommended!

I needed a machete this past hunting season that was light, would fit easily in my pack, and would stay sharp as I cleared the area around my stand and to follow game through thorny areas. I own several other Estwing products and chose this one based on past performance of the others. It did not disappoint at all, it is perfectly balanced and performed better than expected easily slicing through the thickest thorn bushes and branches without ever getting stuck. I may need to get another one, I permanently mounted the sheath on my hunting pack!

A machete is an essential camping item and this one is great. It has a 12″ blade and on the other side a ridged saw blade. With the fire season here I was able to clear out some brush in no time. The handle is comfortable and there isn’t as much shock to the hand when you swing the blade into brush. The saw makes quick work of cutting some 2″ branches as well.

At 12″ long, the blade is a little short for my liking. One side has a very sharp blade which resembles a very large knife while the other has a serrated edge very effective on fibrous vegetation. The knife edge works much like a very wide ax with the heavy weight of the blade giving power to your swings. I cut down some 1″ diameter Hackberry trees in about 5 or 6 chops each – very easy. Then I cleared out some patches of overgrown asparagus with 1/2″ fibrous shoots using the serrated side, again easy work. If it were a few inches longer, it would get more done in less time with about the same effort. But for smaller jobs, this works just fine. I don’t hunt, but I can see how this size would be ideal for cleaning game, being more like a large knife. The soft rubber handle is very comfortable and is plenty large for big hands. The cover/holster has a large belt loop and a strap with locking snap to keep the machete securely inside.
