the only cutting hatchet you will ever need. superb quality and suprisingly heavy with great balance that takes a big bite of wood with every swing. hatchet did have a tiny burr on the leather handle on the top black stripe, two light passes with the wife’s nail file left it smooth and unnoticable.

The question, why a double bit axe, has 3 answers: 1. You sharpen each blade differently, one for chopping and the other at a more narrow angle for carving. That’s what I use it for. 2. With each blade sharpened the same, you get twice the work out of the tool before you need to re sharpen. 3. Zombies haven’t a chance when you wield 2 blades in one…and with such suburban cool as well. Very backyard chic. And all this is to say nothing about the incredible Estwing All Steel Quality. The stacked leather handle on mine has a very heavy coating of plastic or something really tough. No photo of it I’ve seen shows it, but it has a steel cap on the end of the handle attached by what look like a pair steel pins. There are three models of this…one dipped in the Estwing Blue plastic, an all black thing for midnight ops I suppose, and this one, designed for the Gentleman Viking. That would be me I guess since I think it’s an amazing tool in all regards.

Not as durable and sturdy as I would have liked, however I put mine through some serious usage and wear and tear, do two throwing… However overall it is good quality and the handle has not busted off yet, which is most often the case with any of my throwing toys

I’ve used Eastwing Tools for most of my adult life…. over 40 or so years….. I can say I have never been dissapointed with any of them!!!! This two bit axe (hatchet) is no exception! It is well balanced and is very durable….. I carry it on my tractor and have never been disappointed in it’s performance.
