I used this Fireside Friend this past weekend to chop a 4″ thick cross-cut section of a large pine tree. I honestly didn’t think it would cut through since the disc was about 16″ across and 4″ thick, but it made easy work of it in about 3 whacks. Made great chunks of wood to add to our fire pit. Overall it’s a beautiful tool and comes with a decent nylon sheath. I wish it was a leather sheath to compliment the look of the handle more, but I would definitely recommend this tool for anyone looking to split some wood.

The fireside friend lives up to the hype. It is excellent at splitting wood and tough as nails. Pair it with a small sledge hammer and you can break up 5″ – 6″ diameter logs into kindling in no time. The special edition looks fantastic too.

It’s a Great product works perfect for me!Well engineered and balanced has perfect weight for splitting down difficult blocks. the handle feels good in my hand. although, would be nice if handle was just a little thicker close to maul head. that would give the user ability to choke up as fatigue set in from hacking. I understand doing so would add more over all weight to product which may not be such a good thing.I do prefer a wood handle but the fact the head will not come loose out weighs my preference for a wooden handle. the leather wrap handle feels good in the hand also looks great. Additionally, I really like that the maul head is shorter than most on the market. this gives me greater control over the strike with much better accuracy. Recommended product, quality at a reasonable price.
