Anyone who has ever had to cut wire rope knows what a pain it can be, but with this 8 INCH WIRE ROPE AND CABLE CUTTER that job just got a whole lot easier! It is quick and easy to use, but does take some hand strength on the larger sizes, such as the 3/16″ that I used! Instead of using a hack saw or cutting wheel to do your cutting, use this handy tool! I highly recommend it!

Perhaps I didn’t use this item exactly as I was supposed to (like maybe I should’ve cut at an angle or something? Not sure). The first few cuts on 1/16” galvanized vinyl coated steel wire rope was good and then it was hit or miss after that. This will be a rarely used tool (bc I don’t foresee myself cutting wire in the near future), so no big deal for me.

Cutting high tensile strength smooth steel electric wire fencing has always been difficult. I used this Everbilt 8 in. wire rope cutter on a section of that steel wire & had no problem cutting through it. I also had no problem cutting through 1/8″ dia. wire rope. It states on it’s packaging & I tried it & confirm, this cutter will not cut through 1/4″ dia. hard wire rope. The overall length of 8″ for this cutter, provided maximum leverage for cutting. The soft plastic, non slip coating on the handles, felt comfortable to hold. The spring, faithfully opens up the handles, after each use, without interfering with the closing pressure. The spring did not pop out of it’s handle connection. The latch hook, at the end of the handles, fits into a groove on one handle, that solidly kept the handles closed, in transit. A great tool.

Did the job of cutting coated wire with ease!

With 2 cuts made so far, it is easy to use. I’m not sure how long it will last, but it is solid. I do not know how to sharpen either.

It worked, but did not cut the 1/8″ galvanized wire rope that I also purchased at Home Depot as easily as I expected it too. It did cut the rope, though and rather evenly for the most part. The even cuts allowed the rope to be easily inserted into the clamps for securing. I made about five or six cuts in all. It did seem to take a bit more effort with each cut. I only jabbed myself once with a stray stand so I guess you can say the wire rope and cable cutters did their job.

Cuts cable seals up to 3/16 of inches thick like butter. Beat pair of cutters I have ever used

I was about to return this, as it wouldn’t cut through 3/32″ steel rope. It kept crushing the rope instead of cutting it. Then I realized I could see daylight between the two blades when closed. I took two wrenches to it and was able to tighten the nut by at least 3 turns! After that, it easily snipped through the rope.So if you bought this and find it doesn’t cut well, tighten up the center nut first. Quite frankly, that should have been caught by a quality inspector. I took two stars away for the bad quality because it still does the job.

Product: Everbilt 8″ Wire Rope & Cable Cutter/Country of Origin: China/////I’ve tried these cutters on various small diameter wire rope up to 3/16″ and they cut the cable like it’s butter. I can only speculate that they will cut 1/4″ wire rope in the same manner. They are sturdy and built from what appears to be an adequate amount of steel in the proper places. The tolerances are tight which I believe aids in their cutting ability. I previously used a chisel and an anvil to cut wire rope cable and (as you might have guessed) I find these cutters to be a huge improvement over that method (crude…although it works quite well) due to the efficiency of this tool. Quite a well built cutter for its price point.

The 8 inch wire and cable cutter is great to have when cutting large wire, and also wire cable . The 8 inch wire and cable cutter is very sharp right out of the package and they stay sharp after using them for making many cuts of number 6 electrical wire. The grips are comfortable when using them for along period of time. They also make clean cuts .

Sturdy and good feel in my hand. I have only made a few test cuts with this tool, but it seems to do the job well. The thin rubber grip keeps the tool firmly in hand without adding bulk or weight, BUT, be aware the coating is thin and NOT designed to electrically insulate the cutters (you should never cut live wires anyway!). The spring design is interesting, not your typical coiled wire, but a rolled up leaf spring. I’m not sure how durable that will be in the long run, but time will tell. The wire closure loop at the end of the handle is nice to keep the cutters closed and it allows for hanging the tool on your workbench pegboard. I wish I would have had this tool for a recent fence repair. Trimming the wire rope would have been easier.
