The VerticalMouse 4 Small Wireless is a black and brown mouse from Evoluent that’s designed to provide comfort for right-handed users thanks to its ergonomic build. Unlike conventional mice, the VerticalMouse 4 Small Wireless is sculpted in a standing position and has an integrated thumb rest, so you can click away without having to twist your arm or extend your fingers far.
Aside from being able to withstand long hours of work, the VerticalMouse 4 Small Wireless is also responsive with its adjustable optical sensor. Furthermore, it has a built-in extended lip to prevent uncomfortable chafing against your desk or mouse pad. When you need to know this mouse’s pointer speed, make sure to look at its top-mounted LED indicators.
Provided along with the mouse, you’ll receive a driver that works with Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. However, you can still use the VerticalMouse 4 Small Wireless without it since this mouse utilizes 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity.

This is the second Evoluent mouse I have owned. They are the most comfortable truly ergonomic mouse on the market. I have tried several. As an architect I use a lot of design softwares that require a high level of mouse control, not unlike gaming. This mouse saved me from Carpal Tunnel syndrome after a string of long deadlines. It’s expensive, but just as worth it as a truly comfortable desk chair. I highly recommend this for daily use.

On my 2nd one; 1st lasted over 8 years. (Also have a right-handed one.) Got my first one around the same time as getting a Kinesis Freestyle keyboard, and this mouse took longer to acclimate to. It’s not just that it’s vertical mouse, it’s a different shape. Usable initially, but comfortable in a few days … so much so, that I had to get one for my work computer. Not convinced that it would be helpful? Hold out your mouse arm, straight away from your body, and rotate it till your hand is in position to use a normal mouse. Now rotate that same arm so the thumb is in the highest position of any digit. Which position is more comfortable? Extra buttons: Top button is for left clicks, middle for right clicks, bottom button is for double left clicks. Thumb controls forward & reverse web page navigation. And the scroll wheel displays the desktop. Thought these extra buttons were gimmicks, but now I cannot live without them.

If you have wrist or arm pain from excessive computer/mouse work, I strongly suggest you give this a try. I’ve been using a version of this exact mouse for 15 years now. It really works. It can’t magically un-do long-term damage, but it can ease your pain and stop the terrible ergonomics a regular/traditional mouse causes. If you really want to go all-the-way, add a Goldtouch split keyboard as well, for the ultimate ergonomic computer set up. (the keyboard only applies if you can touch-type), but mouse will work for anyone. It’s worth the investment, I promise.

This is a fantastic mouse if your hand starts to go numb using a regular mouse. I’ve got one at work, and it solves the problem, so I got one for home. I used to have the joystick kind, but it was awkward and clunky. This one is much easier to use!

Once I got this mouse, all the pain in my right arm and wrist went completely away. I had the bluetooth version of this first, but it kept loosing the connection through out the day, so I tried this wifi version and it works flawlessly. Just be aware that the software that comes with it doesn’t work on the new Mac operating systems, but you can get USB Overdrive that will allow you to set up all the preferences for the buttons.

In terms of comfort and ergonomic design, this vertical mouse is absolutely outstanding. However I was quite disappointed that the drivers for Mac OS are so out of date that it basically only functions as a two button mouse, instead of the six customizable buttons that it ought to have. It’s probably fine for Windows, but for a Mac using anything later than OS 10.13, forget about it.
