I purchased this Saw today and used it to cut 2×4, 11 gauge, hot-rolled steel tubing. It did a nice job, not perfect, but nice. I find the angle control sloppy, and loose. Further, the 45 cuts were off, however, to be fair, I was pushing the saw beyond its 45 degree limits at 4 inches by 2 inches. I found it to cut off by 2 degrees as it neared its end cutting duties. I had to use a grinder to true, as best of my abilities, to make the correction. The blade is a beast, and given the $20 discount to acquire the 15 inch blade with the saw (a promotion), I accepted and forked out an additional $99 for an identical blade, but an inch larger than what comes on it. Why don’t they just put the 15 inch blade on it if they know it cuts larger stock, and provides a more accurate cut?! It is heavy and not what I would necessarily call a “portable” saw, but to the extent you can move it, it is portable. I’m big and waste a lot of time at the gym, and I can see where this saw, at its heft, is not for everyone, and is more likely a saw that should be stationary, and built onto stand. Personally, I’m building a stand for my welding work; plasma and welder and this saw will be on the bottom shelf, so It’s fine. On to the cutting; better watch out, this thing kicks out chunky, hot steel right at you. I wore eye protection and felt the hot projectiles in no time. I immediately moved to a magnetic shield that I placed onto the steel being cut and that virtually eliminated the safety nuisance. Sure you can wear a full face shield; it’s not enough, you need something close to the cutting to keep the projectiles to a minimum–they are not like grinding sparks, these things are screwy looking and can make a Christian out of you, certainly get your attention fast. There is a chip catcher, but it catches about 25% of what is produced. I cleaned up with a magnet and was stunned how much metal by-product this thing chewed up; it’s a darn carnivore. The blade should be called a “T-Rex” or something. The gate is large and merciless; it holds onto the steel like a shark. Nothing is really precision, but its mean and nasty and gets the job done with little fan-fare. This is a worker’s saw, and there is nothing artistic or sweet about it–it is here to do a job and it’s going to do it fast and as clean as it can.In summation; it does what it is supposed to do. It is fairly accurate, it’s noisy, it vibrates a ton, it is scary strong, and it relies almost completely on the blade to make things look pretty. It is certainly operate like something made in China, as I have other Chinese tools and can say it is along those lines, but it is also more; it has something built into it that results in quality, and that is enough. In reviewing the material I cut; it is 2×4, 12 Gauge, HR steel. Note the mars left behind, and the very slight burrs, the cutting lines from the saws spinning blade, and most importantly, the angle divergence as it nears its limit. The saw didn’t give a crap; it was going to rip through whatever was in its jaws of life, but it’s clear I taxed it. Do not cut ANYTHING without complete protection; gloves, shield and eye protection. This saw is incredibly powerful and demands complete respect for safety.

The saw was ready to use out of the box. First used to cut 4×4, 1/4″ thickness steel, and it cut like butter. Smooth and fast. No burrs, burns, and was cool to the touch.

We use this saw to do testing on solder joints on copper pipe. The saw cuts so cool that it doesn’t re-flow the solder and makes for more accurate tests.

Saw works well and cuts at 90 degrees. We work with a lot of tubing and the 90 degree cut is important for good fit up for welding. Only problem with the saw was that when cutting off a short piece, the piece was thrown up into the guard, jammed and broke the guard housing. Needs a redesign to have the guard come down from the top, instead of wrapping around the bottom of the saw.

This is a very good saw, should have purchased one years ago. I have used the abrasive type saw for many years and the dust that it created in my shop no doubt is not healthy. This saw cuts through the metal that I use in half the time and best of all there is no heat build up.

I’ve, so far, only used the EVO380 to cut 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 inch (1/8 inch wall) tubing. I set it at 45 degrees, per the markings on the saw, but found those to be off by (est) 2 degrees. Used a t-square (with 45 angle) to set the miter angle. Once set, wow, the 14-inch (supplied with saw) cut through the steel within 15 seconds (instructions say not to force it, let the saw do the work). I’ve used abrasive blade saws previously and this toothed-blade left a MUCH cleaner cut (no deburring was necessary except for a bevel for welding) and was probably a bit faster. I used earmuffs, but the saw is quieter than an abrasive type. Watching the blade turn so ‘slowly’ was different ! I’m looking forward to using it again soon. Worth the price, if you do a fair amount of cutting. The vice was adequate for the square tubing (the saw comes with an angle piece used to better grip round items, haven’t tried it yet, but would be good for metal fenceposts (if you need to miter or cut-to-length).

So far this is a great saw. I bought it to replace my horizontal bandsaw. The evo cuts just a clean as the bandsaw in a fraction of the time. I primarily cut tubing as I do tubing related metal fabrication. This saw saved me at least an hour of cut time on the first job I used it for.

I have used this chop saw for a year now and have to say it has done an excellent job on cutting mild steel. The thickest i have used it for was 2 1/2 squar tub 3/16 thick and it has done very well. Oh course you want to cut slow and easy so the blade will last you longer. I am now building a trailer and have used to cut 2 inch square tubing 1/8 thick with no problems. 45 degree cuts are easy as well and i love the square tube attachment which allows you to make straight cuts on square tube on its side which make cutting smoother. See the attached image. Its now been a year and im going to order a new blade today.

after researching many saws I chose this one. I started cutting steel box, pipe, and angle right off. all of this was quarter inch and the saw went through flawlessly. solid saw and easy to use.

This saw has made cutting metal so much more efficient for me. It cuts straight and easy. It’s 100 times better than using a cut-off wheel. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’ve made over 500 cuts with the same blade and it is still going strong. The only thing that I would change if I could is the degree or angle of cuts should be bi-directional.
