I am a professional video editor and I use this as my MAIN drive for all things video. It works great and is super fast and responsive. This is my first SSD and I have to say it’s such a different world from the tradition spinning drives. It is also so small it just goes into my laptop bag when I need to travel. I have also been using and trusting GTech for 15+ years.

I purchased this for tethering, so I would not experience lagginess, like I did when using USB 3.1 7200rpm HDDs. I do not have a USB-C laptop so I am unable to comment on the drive’s performance without using an USB-C – USB 3.1 adapter. Though if you do, you’d likely experience even faster read/write times which might be significant with 4K video editing and 50 megapixel cameras. I’m currently experiencing about ~380mb/s write and ~415mb/s read through USB. 3.1 adapter and hub. Nonetheless, this is an excellent drive for its price. I used it on a big assignment this past week and it never lagged while tethered to Capture One with ~40mb RAW files. Very dependable thus far. I have dropped it 4 feet onto concrete when it was powered off, and it’s fine. It’s smaller than you might think (4″ x 2″ x 1/3″). While tethering I use a USB 3.1 bus powered hub so on location I can make real time backups from this drive to another external. The Kingwin USB 3.1 bus drive from B&H appears to be working well. 500GB is fine for me to use on location since I will empty it to a RAID when I return home. Though if you are using this for video I would buy a 1 TB or larger. This drive is small enough to put in your pocket, which is both a good and bag thing. Good because, l can keep it in my pocket while traveling so it is separated from the cloned backup that stays with my bags. Bad because it might be easier to misplace than a traditional external HDD from G drive or Lacie. That’s easy to fix though. I’m going to buy a pair of cubed foam HPRC 1300M hard cases. This drive will fit nicely inside. If you are a photographer tethering to capture one, don’t buy a traditional 1 TB 7200rpm USB 3.1 drive. They are outdated compared to this, and frankly noticeably slower. Spend the extra ~$75 and buy an SSD, they will probably last longer too since they have no moving parts.

Great drive. I either buy this or the Samsung T7 2TB. Go with the one that is one sale. They are both terrific on Mac or PC

I use it on usb-c, macbook pro 13, super fast, very nice, well made, with good materials, only a short cable but I think I would prefer a little longer.

The cord is a little shorter than I expected, but this is a beast of a hard drive housed in a tiny device.

Fast little drive. I was able to edit full hd video files directly off the drive with zero lag. Haven’t had a problem yet with G-Tech drives. Looks pretty too!

I purchased this drive to act as the startup drive for my mac mini. I can see no performance drop. I use a 500 GB G-Technology SSD for storage of documents and files. No problems

This is my first SSD drive and this seems to run really fast – I was able to do a fresh SuperDuper backup of my 1TB drive in under an hour, and that would usually take me a few hours.

This is my second one because I loved the first one!

Needed this to extend my space on my work laptop for video editing and gfx work. G-Tech drives have always worked great for me, and this SSD drive does what I need it to for video work.
