I use my hard drive for storage and video editing and so far it’s been working just fine. I don’t find that it’s slowing or interfering with any other systems on my laptop, and the USB-C fits nicely and does not wiggle or disconnect accidentally, which was a problem I had with an old hard drive. It’s slim and light, doesn’t take up too much space or weigh you down too much. No complaints so far about it!

Other portable drives offer USB3 but at 5400 RPM, so the theoretical transfer rate of the USB interface exceeds the drive’s ability to read that data. This 7200 RPM drive is a better fit in terms of improving performance, which has proven useful for high res image scanning.

This drive lived on my office desk, no big temperature swings, never dropped, etc. It dismounted itself from my Mac and died taking 2.5 years of backups with it. RMA at G-Tech’s all but unusable website a nightmare. Oh, and you’ll just get a replacement drive IF G-tech honors the limited warranty. Yay. Spend for a Glyph, real WD, Seagate (have used all without incident), but not this G-Tech. In 28 years of computer use, had only one other (spinner) drive die, and that was due to a hard knock while writing to a spinning disc. No such excuse here.

The drive is my go-to location work drive. Photos from my full frame canon dslr, prores 422 hq files from my blackmagic – this drive can work them all, no problem. The performance is excellent, thus deserving all 5 stars. But it is not all-around hard/software like lacie. I recommend you to buy a protective case for support!

I am totally invested in G Technology. all of my hard drives are G…. So When I look for a reliable hard drive to get the job done I’m always searching for G Technology first. I had to show my client the raw footage of a shoot we did. and there were four hours of video… way too much to upload & send via transfer.com. So I bought this hard drive, uploaded my footage from my iMac without any formatting & shipped it off to my client. Everyone is happy –

Took it to a trusted diagnostic service, and they said there was a hardware malfunction that was not due to misuse.

In the context of backups and long term storage this one of the top drives available. It has a combination of speed, compact, and lightweight. It is about 1/3 lb. In perspective, at 140MB/s speed it is almost 2x Firewire 800, and about 1/3 the speed of G-Drive SSD. It is a mechanical drive so it may not be as durable as a SSD, but it is an exceptional option for long term reliable backups.

Although I’ve had problems with g-tech drives in the past, this one has, so far, been great. The only thing that really separates this drive from others in its class is that the metal enclosure has a slightly rough patina which keeps it from slipping, or even moving, on most surfaces. I think that’s my favorite feature of the drive.

I plugged it into my Mac, and it did exactly what it was supposed to do. For a hard drive (i.e., not an SSD) it is fast, and if everything I have read about G-Drive’s is true, it should also be reliable.

I am very happy with how fast they delivered I ordered my product Sunday evening and received a text that I would get it on Tuesday but it came late Monday morning I was very pleased with that.

I bought this to be a portable storage for a short narrative film. at 7200RPM with a TB of storage, this little hard drive is fantastic for me and my post production people to work with.

I plugged it in, I wrote to it, it was quiet and smooth and worked perfectly, and so far I’m very happy with it and will probably buy another one soon.

I generally like this drive. It’s speedy, dependable, lightweight. For one of my clients, I buy a new one of these every other month for each of their shoots for their own archive of images. Sadly, there aren’t many 7200rpm external 2.5″ drives on the market these days. The faster speed DOES make a difference when archiving 600-800GB during a week’s shoot. I like G-Tech. I’ve bought their drives for years and have had no problems to date.

Well I’m a Music Composer and I bought a WD 2 TB 5400 RPM and had to waita long time for my sample librarys to load into my tracks, also when I played a sample it would cut off. I didn’t realize when I bought the Ext HD it was only 5400 rpm. When I researched my problem on a music website it suggested I use at least a 7200 rpm HD .So I searched and found this 1 TB G-Drive and it solved my loading problem and I was always getting the Color wheel as on Mac’s tells you a slow processing problem. That is now almost non exsitatant.
