I bought this to house my VST audio sample libraries. It works perfectly, with no latency even when connected to a usb hub. It is quiet and fast.

I edited 4K GH5 footage on this for a couple projects. It saved me some money, as I was moving from a 2013 macbook pro to a Dell XPS 15. I needed something that was affordable, but worked. If you’re editing right off of this, you’re going to deal with some choppy moments when editing in 4K. But coming from that mac, I’m used to that even in 1080p. I now work off of a portable SSD. But this was a life saver for sure.

Used for Lightroom Library (400 Gig) that I moved from internal iMac HD. Very fast, can’t see any difference in performance from HD.

I’ve bought 5 of these so far for small media management across multiple Mac computers, before transferring to RAID system. They are faster than 5400 rpm drives, and other than daisy-chaining there is no advantage to Thunderbolt 2 for single drives like these.

bought this to work as a time machine with my Mac and it’s working fine.

I use this drive to store a lot of 4K footage and I edit off of it regularly. I’ve had it for a year now and it has yet to let me down. It’s still super fast, super smooth and super easy to use. I don’t know what I would do without it. I would recommend getting a protective carrying case for it if you want to avoid scratches and keep you footage safe. 🙂

As long time users of the G-Raid/G-Drive families, this is our newest addition and seems to be fast. I can’t speak to it’s reliability as we have only used it for a couple of weeks so far, but I imagine it will be as reliable as G-Tech drives usually are!

I have used these G-Drives for a reliable external backup of my photos and other data for several years. This 4TB drive is to replace my past 1 TB G-Drives. It’s a solid drive and works well. I like that it contains both a USB A and a type C cable to use with my MacBook Pro and my NAS. My current 1TB upload was slower to backup than expected. But the slower speed might be due to the source was coming from my NAS over a USB A connection.

Very good

I use this with my laptop for time machine backup. What’s great about it is that it runs on USB power (no brick) and it is so small and quiet. No negatives. Totally recommend purchasing.

The products that were sent are 2 ans three years old. I’m extremely dissatisfied and want products manufactured within the past year.

Bought this drive to deliver raw ftg compression to my client. Knew it will likely be sitting in a draw for years so I wanted to deliver the best drive I could.

So far I have had good experience with this drive. My one drawback pertains more to my computer which only has USB 2. Because of that, I really need the model w FireWire capability for video work. This is still good for backing up.

Thanks to B&H sales representative I made the right choice.

… that was of high quality, fast (USB 3.1 Gen 1), and built well. Tired of running into issues with backup external drives from other manufacturers. G-Tech drives from now on!
Mattie Jaskolski (verified owner) –
came quickly, I haven’t used it yet but it plugs into my laptop perfectly.

It took a lot of time with a B&H phone rep to figure out which of 3 portable G-Tech drives would connect to my Airbook and how, but this one uses a standard USB and is cheaper than the one with the TB 2 plug and adapter. I bought two and exchanged one of them immediately because there was noise from the unit and the power light was wonky. They are quiet and I wanted the 7200 RPM.

My wife needed to replace her old Time Capsule, which started having intermittent issues. Getting this drive up and running was as simple as plug-and-play, with her MacBook Pro. Its super quiet and almost vibration free. She doesnt leave it plugged in, so back-ups occur about once a week. If you decide to leave this drive plugged-in, the utility will give you to ability to do back-ups frequently, often several times a day if youre on that long. The drive has been in service since January, and so far, no issues. I dont suspect that there will be a problem given the glowing reviews that I read before buying.

I do a lot of video and raw photo work and I love this hard drive for its portability, speed and reliability. It never fails to perform and with 1TB of space I can get a lot on it without feeling like I have too many eggs in one basket in case there would be an unexpected failure. I’m a G-DRIVE fan. Just feels good in my hand, too.

No complaints. Wish it was faster but that would cost more $$$ for other options.
