I generally like this drive. It’s speedy, dependable, lightweight. For one of my clients, I buy a new one of these every other month for each of their shoots for their own archive of images. Sadly, there aren’t many 7200rpm external 2.5″ drives on the market these days. The faster speed DOES make a difference when archiving 600-800GB during a week’s shoot. I like G-Tech. I’ve bought their drives for years and have had no problems to date.

This hard drive died today, less than 4 months after I bought it. This is the first time I have used this brand and also the first time this has happened to me in over 15 years.
Einar Skiles (verified owner) –
I went for the slightly more expensive USB C interface and it seem faster.

This small drive is great for video editing on the fly. I edit 4K from the Lumix GH4 on my laptop all day.

As long time users of the G-Raid/G-Drive families, this is our newest addition and seems to be fast. I can’t speak to it’s reliability as we have only used it for a couple of weeks so far, but I imagine it will be as reliable as G-Tech drives usually are!

Pretty simple, easy, external drive. Very easy set up with Mac Time Machine. And I like how slim and light it is. Easy to carry around if need be. I highly recommend this external drive.

I purchased the 1TB G-Drive portable 7200 RPM hard drive to create more space on my laptop’s hard disk. I moved iTunes there and eventually will move my Photos application there too. It’s so easy to set up, all I had to do was connect it. No need to configure it or install software on my laptop. It’s small, lightweight, and attractive. Hardly makes any noise and is easy to store out of the way when not in use. Also, my cat likes to sleep on it for some reason, even when it’s not plugged in and warm. Mystery.

So far I have had good experience with this drive. My one drawback pertains more to my computer which only has USB 2. Because of that, I really need the model w FireWire capability for video work. This is still good for backing up.

Amazing form-factor, reliable performance, and proven over a good period of time. This is my second purchase of this item. The first one I purchased a couple years ago, and it’s working great as a Time Machine Backup via my Airport Extreme. This one is being used as a media drive to shuttle things back and forth between an assistant editor. Works great and the USB3 gives a nice boost of performance–over 100MB/s in Read & Write speeds.

I use my G-Drive hard drives to store RAW photography (I work with Lightroom). I have had two desktop hard drives from G-Technology for years now and have absolutely no complaints, but those are of course, not meant for travel. However, having had only those for some time, I have spent a whole lot of time wrapping them up and protecting them for travel (I know…silly.) I finally got around to order my mobile drive. When I received my order from B&H, I sat in ritual with my shipment – as usual – and when I held this tiny little lightweight mobile drive in my hand, I exclaimed, Look at the size of this thing! Soon thereafter I traveled up North and realized just how seamlessly I can fit this little drive everywhere. When I returned from my trip, all I could say is, Size really does matter!

The G-DRIVE name is becoming increasingly popular with landscape photographers, and based on a recommendation, I decided to purchase this hard drive. As I prefer not to store all of my images on one hard drive alone, I used the 1 TB model to save part of my portfolio. I feel that it is important to save my images at an off-site location, for added security of my image files. Once connected, my iMac instantly recognized the drive, and quickly and securely copied one terabyte of images.

I bought this to house my VST audio sample libraries. It works perfectly, with no latency even when connected to a usb hub. It is quiet and fast.

Great Drive. i got this for the price. historically, i have not had a good time with mechanical drives, so I’ve mostly changed over to SSDs. But, for temporary storage and backup, I thought it might be worth the shot. G-Technologies has a great reputation. That’s why i purchased it.

We use these to store assets for editing before we archive them. There is no issue with speed at all and they just work. Hum along forever without a problem. Also, tiny so they take up hardly any space.

I am very happy with how fast they delivered I ordered my product Sunday evening and received a text that I would get it on Tuesday but it came late Monday morning I was very pleased with that.

I bought this drive as a backup for mu new MacBook Pro 16 laptop. What can I say other than it does what it’s supposed to do and it does it fast! It comes formatted for Mac so start up is a breeze. I’ve used G-Tech drives for all of my Mac’s over the years and have never been disappointed.
Willow Legros (verified owner) –
Instant connection, fast read/write and preformatted. I’ll buy another if my space needs change
Preston Robel (verified owner) –
Extremely reliable. I have four G-Technology external drives, no problems!

I wasted my money in this piece of crap that last just over a year. I will never purchase anything from G-Technology, I used this thing once a month and it rarely got moved around yet it failed. Stay away from this outdated tech.
