Well I’m a Music Composer and I bought a WD 2 TB 5400 RPM and had to waita long time for my sample librarys to load into my tracks, also when I played a sample it would cut off. I didn’t realize when I bought the Ext HD it was only 5400 rpm. When I researched my problem on a music website it suggested I use at least a 7200 rpm HD .So I searched and found this 1 TB G-Drive and it solved my loading problem and I was always getting the Color wheel as on Mac’s tells you a slow processing problem. That is now almost non exsitatant.

Using this as a backup to my MacBook Pro Retina 13 (late 2013 model) with 1 TB SSD. Read and write times using AJA System Test are over 100 MB/s. Very impressive. No problem with powering up on the UDB 3 Mac ports. Some of my older G-Tech FW800 portable drives will not even boot using the Thunderbolt to FW adapters so this is a necessary replacement and much less than the Thunderbolt drives.

Fairly fast drive for the price. I’ve owned a few G-Drives and they have yet to let me down.

The G-Drive is an excellent and portable data storage unit when it comes to privacy and accessibility in numerous locations.

Easy to install and set up to back up my Mac. Would have liked to use same device to back up a PC but, I believe, it can’t do so for newer pc operating systems.

My photos are held on G external hard drives. The desk model is 6 TB and then I have two 4 Tb portable that I alternate using for my backups. Nice looking, light and they work!

This is a great drive, I transferred 200 GB of photos to this drive in 15 mins. I was impressed with the speed. I’m using a Macbook Pro and I have had no issues with this drive. It is a perfect size to carry around, lightweight, and great price.

It’s reliably fast when you edit but if the thing shifts even just a little, the connection breaks and your dat might get corrupted. And that constantly happens

I generally don’t review for the product I receive, but I couldn’t refrain myself making review for this one…. its just the best product I was expecting to get. Packing was very very nice, and got the product before the delivery date. Item was safely equipped inside the box. So overall it was an excellent experience buying gadget from your site. Hoping for the next another purchase.

I asked B&H for a recommendation. I have a desktop iMAC. This is their recommendation and it works well. Many thanks to B&H.

I bought to back up lightroom but incorrectly thought 1 TB was sufficient but now need to buy a 2 TB. Seems to work O K. I bought this brand because it is supposed to work easily with a MAC

Great Drive. I use it for backing up and editing on my Macbook Pro. I own an iMac as well and I just dump the contents of this drive onto the Pegasus Raid connected to my iMac.But its fast enough to edit on its own. Its the fasted single-drive, non SSD bus powered drive out there probably. I edit on Premiere Pro CC but I don;t work in 4k. I edit C-100 footage in 1080p and this drive has always done good by me.I have mine formatted in Ex FAT because I do work on a Macbook, iMac, and a Thinkpad. It works well with both Mac and PC formatted like this. I own this as well as the Thunderbolt 1TB G-Drive. This one is $ cheaper and just as fast when I tested the speed on the Blackmagic Disk Speed test app. All you lose by buying this and not the thunderbolt version is the Thunderbolt interface. So I would recommend buying 2 of these to have an edit drive and a backup instead of buying the Thunderbolt version. This is also half as thin as the Thunderbolt version.

This is a good harddrive. It works well with large media files, transferring large files and folders. But it has a pretty loud hum when plugged in to the computer, which is annoying.

I edited 4K GH5 footage on this for a couple projects. It saved me some money, as I was moving from a 2013 macbook pro to a Dell XPS 15. I needed something that was affordable, but worked. If you’re editing right off of this, you’re going to deal with some choppy moments when editing in 4K. But coming from that mac, I’m used to that even in 1080p. I now work off of a portable SSD. But this was a life saver for sure.

It’s small, it’s solid and it’s perfect to use as the time machine on my new iMac. If you don’t need tons of TB’s like me I highly recommend this.
