Other than the reduced flow rate, I really have no problems with this filter. I have been using the the best filter which is the FXUVC and it does kill the flow rate. But I’d rather have thoroughly filtered water. My fridge came without a built in filter so I hung one of these in my basement to supply it. If I ever make a little mess changing the filter, I’d rather it be in my basement rather than my kitchen. Since it’s only supplying my icemaker and occasionally filling a glass, the flow rate doesn’t bother me. If I really want to increase flow rate, I’ve even thought about installing 2 or 3 units in parallel. More cost for filters, but the flow rate would double or triple.

I installed this filter unit using GE replacement cartridge FXULC to reduce sediment, chlorine and cysts. It seems to be an excellent replacement for a Sears cartridge that I used over 20 years and that Sears no longer seems to sell. I’m using a dedicated faucet, so flow rate is very good. I’m using the GE unit to replace a 3M Filtrete Under-Sink Advanced Water Filtration System 3US-PS01. I’m giving up on the 3M cartridges because all 3 replacement units within 4 months unit produced extremely cloudy water with floating particles and chalky taste. My water was crystal clear from the unfiltered faucet and using a PUR direct mount filter. The GE unit with the FXULC cartridge is doing and excellent job producing great tasting clear water.

Pros:- Saves tons of $$$ on filter costs. FXUTC filter is only $13, and you can buy other filters depending on your filtering needs. The unit pays for itself in 2 filter changes with the money saved.- I’ve used this filter for over 10 years in 4 different residences, and it never fails or leaks, so long as you know what you’re doing. See cons.- Filter lasts a long time.- No fittings, tubing, connections, or faucet provided. Yes, this is a “pro” because why include things that you may not need/want? Buy 3/8″ to __ compression fittings, tubing, etc. and hook it up yourself. You could also buy plastic “quick connect” fittings, but those will eventually leak. Brass compression fittings are a couple bucks more each. Do it right the first time and avoid potential water damage.Cons:- You need to torque it quite a bit to avoid leaks. Oil filter wrench makes it easy though.- Use vegetable oil on the O-ring help to avoid leaks.

Before buying this filter i knew it didn’t come with any hardware. Having said that, i would have thought a filter that cost this much without a filter element included would at least have the required hardware. Also, buy a filter wrench if you get this housing. Once installed it worked like a charm.

I purchased this product a month ago even after reading some of the reviews. I too, had a little trouble figuring out how to plumb the filter in. If you get two (2) A-129 brass elbows, available at Home Depot, which are 3/8″ by 3/8 MIP it is a very simple installation. You thread in the 3/8″ elbows into the filter, disconnect the water line from the shut off and screw it into the MIP connection on the outlet side of the filter, ( you may want to replace this line while you are at it, so it is new too) connect a new water faucet supply line from the inlet side of the filter to the shutoff valve and presto you are in business. About $20 for the two connectors and a new steel braid supply line. The thing that is really neat about this filter, is that you can choose from 3 or 4 different types of filters to filter what it is you are trying to filter out, from chlorine to micro bugs, you pick the one you want. Course the more you filter out the higher the cost of the filter. Flow rate is less than without the filter, but we are using one of the more complete filters and we can still fill a half gallon jug in just over a minute. Another benefit was that we were able to keep the Moen faucet we had purchased a year ago that has the sprayer that just pulls out of the faucet stem, which meant that one of those filters you screw into the faucet would not have worked for us. It is also out of sight under the sink, no bulky filter hanging in your way at the sink. Great product period.

I’ve had this unit a year now so I’ve had plenty of time to check it out, it was great,. I’ve just changed out my second Chlorine filter but this time I decided to replace it with a better one that gets lead and cysts etc.I got the GE FXULC Replacement Filter, it’s more expensive but I figured it was worth it to stay healthy .Unfortunately since installing the new filter, my system has immediately began emitting a high pitched noise when the faucet was turned on and it is slower running. I can put up with the slower running faucet but the noise is annoying. On that basis I wouldn’t recommend this system to anyone unless they only plan on using the cheaper filter.

This is the container shell for replaceable filters only. To complete the install you will need a filter, tubing, faucet, and appropriate fittings. Add up the item costs and you can buy a complete filter install kit cheaper. I should have thought it through and bought something else.

Easy to install, however you need to use brass connectors for the intake and outtake of the filter.

Using exclusively for sink drinking water dispenser. Taste and odor of “overtreated” city water removed. Tool to tighten, ( Not included ) should be. Estimate 15% to 20% water pressure loss at dispenser compared to the previous filter.

This product is a great under sink water filter. I’ve installed them in the last three houses I have owned and will install the one I bought today in my new house tomorrow. The installation is simple, just buy some brass fittings to adapt it to the existing plumbing, insert the filter of your choice and mount it to the cabinet wall with a couple of wood screws. It does a great job of filtering chlorine taste out of city supplies and removes that stagnant taste from water supplied from lakes and other surface supplies. If you re worried about heavy metals, there are filter elements available to take that out as well. You will be totally grossed out the first time you change the filter when you see how brown and dirty it is after only a few months. Just imagine, you and your family used to drink that!I really don’t understand all the whining about having to shop for a few fittings and a short hose to install the housing. Would you rather pay two or three times as much and have a huge pile of useless bits left if they tried to cover every possible permutation of plumbing connections possible in the average house? Maybe I spent too many years in construction but I’d rather spend a quarter as much cash on the initial purchase and a few minutes selecting exactly what I will need to get the job done. If you need that much hand holding, call Joe the Plumber and let him take care of it.

So far, so good. Only time will tell with our San Antonio TX water..

We are so happy we put this filter in under our sink. It feeds into the cold water tap so we have clean, accessible water at the sink.

Second of these filter systems we have installed. Very happy with it’s quality and ease of use.

I gave this a 5 star only after a lot of sweat and toil. Originally installed and leaked like a sieve. The rubber gasekets are too thick, at least on the filter cartridge I also purchased. Called GE and they advised returning, but I wasn’t ready to give up. I was fortunately having available some neoprene rubber to cut some custom gaskets less thick than the ones supplied with the filter. This is basically a good product but GE doesn’t seem to have a clue. You need thinner rubber filter gaskets to allow a good seal to the O-ring between canister and upper housing. My unit, now with thinner gaskets, seals well. Be careful, you do need adequate filter rubber gasket thickness to ensure the water supply is not by-passing the filter and is going through it. I really feel GE owes me some compensation for all the work and experimentation I’ve done !!

This filter is being installed im my camper as a replacement for one that froze and cracked. (my fault) Installation is fairly simple and doesn’t take much space. Water flow is not great but it’s only used for drinking water. My biggest concern is the seemingly high cost of replacement filters. That seems to be true of any product that needs periodic replacement.

I like the filter housing its very simple, only bad thing about it is that it does not come with fittings to connect the hose, make sure you use brass fittings on this thing tried using plastic quick connects and they all leak, also get the $25 filter its cheap for what it removes, and lasts for 6months replace twice a year even if you dont use its 2,000 or 6,000 gallon capacity.

The installation is easy and elemental. The flow of water is acceptable. The water comes out crystalline and neutral taste. I am very satisfied with the product.
