The GE 45,100-Grain Water Softener System features SmartSoft technology that monitors water usage and anticipates future demand, so you don’t run out of soft water. It has a 160 grains per gallon maximum hardness-removal capacity and it also removes 10 PPM of iron. Handy features such as programmable operation, an alarm and indicator lights and a permanent memory offer reliable, hassle-free operation. This system has the capacity and convenience features that make it ideal for families of 4 or more.

Had it 3 years. No more mineral build-up in appliances (dishwasher heat coil, espresso machine). Water heater anode rod previously had massive mineral buildup. New rod has no buildup after 3 years. I would not be worried this one could handle 4 people in the house. You would just replace it sooner than a bigger one. Easy to replace though, good price and small size is nice. Noticed silky shower water right away, so you know it is making a difference in laundry.

This is my 2nd GE softener in 2yrs …SAME MODEL ….the last one purchase at home depot just died…hope this one makes it past 2yrs…warranty expires after 1yr so i was out of luck!

I installed it about 10 days back and so far so good. It took us about 4 days after the installation for us to feel the change in water, but since then, it is working great. Installation was easy. The materials that connect to the water pipes do feel a bit cheap and flimsy. I guess as long as they hold, we should be ok. However, if I have to unhook it for maintenance or something, I would be very scared because they may break.

Easy install. Works great. Simple and cost effective. I have always ordered the basic models on my last 4 houses and have never had a service call or failure. Friends of mine have been talked into fancy multi tanked softeners for 2000 price range and had service issues, spent extra money uselessly, and take up too much valuable garage space. Product shipped with 2 bad bypass valve o-rings and 1 bad venturi housing o-ring(see photos). 1st unit arrived with broken top and was replaced quickly with new unit. I shudder to think how much water would have been on my floor if I hadn’t discovered these bad o-rings. It works well now that the issues have been resolved.
