We have been using this item for years bought in the store, but now it can only be bought online. It becomes brittle after awhile so at some point will probably snap off while trying to unscrew it to replace the filter inside, so read the instructions and be careful with how much torque you apply. There are some filters that may do a better job but we are tall and our and need all the height from our normal height shower head we can get. The other larger filters are made to attach BELOW the normal shower head height so your shower head spray is 4-8″ lower on some models. That just wouldn’t work for us. If that were not an issue due to being shorter or having a shower head installed higher than normal, I would probably try another type since this does remove the rust for awhile and is better than nothing but needs to be replaced every 3 or 4 weeks with our water. At $10 each that $120 – 170 a year that could be likely be cheaper with a larger filter, but its better than orange tinted hair you didn’t choose.

Works fine, and doesn’t look bad. Works best with a regular shower sprayer head instead of a hand held head type with hose, due to weight factor, but will still work with one. Just be cautious. I have had one for about 8 or 9 years on one of our showers. Just bought a new one for our other shower.

Affordable item that serves its purpose. Be careful when your shower releases water at high pressure, this can cause the filter to clog and fail early. If not replaced at the right time, whole filtration system has to be changed.

I’ve had the GE Shower water filtration system in our home for the past 1-1/2 years (in two showers). And, there is a significant noticeable difference when showering… softer skin, silkier hair, no more irritated burning eyes. It is rather simple to install the system in-line with our water pick shower head wands and very easy to remove and replace the filter cartridge when it’s time to do so. I do find it helpful to use a gripper wrench for tightening the adapter/connectors, but I only use my hands/fingers to tighten the cover in place.Even so, most recently, when I tried to replace the cartridge filter, I found that I could not unscrew the cover. My problem was solved when I disconnected the filter system from the shower-head and took the system to the Home Depot plumbing department. After applying much effort, the associate was able to unscrew the cover so that I could replace the filter cartridge. In my experience, the value, quality, and efficiency of this product have exceeded my expectations.On a final note, I purchased some silicone faucet grease, after the associate recommended using a very small amount on the o-ring and threads to see if would make it easier for me to unscrew the cover the next time I replace the cartridge.

I like the fact that this is not a KDF filter because my problem is copper. I have acidic well water coming through copper pipes. However the showerhead blew off the first time I used it. The washer is entirely to thick and takes up valueable thread space for good attachement. I took the washer completely out and it only drips a little during a shower. I’d rather have an attached showerhead with a slight leak after filtration than a showerhead that is completely unusable.

there are other filters on the market that do a much better job than this one and are built to last much longer. The thing is, they all cost at least 3x as much. If this breaks in 3 months I will still consider it a success because it was cheap enough that i bought it with out specifically reviewing this model and even at this low price point it made a big enough difference that I am sold on the benefits of continuing to use a shower filter where before I questioned if i would see the difference.If you want a filter that will remove a lot higher % of things look for one that uses a filter media called KDF and active carbon.if you want proof this is doing something run the shower then run the tub. if you have any kind of sensitivity in your smell you can tell the difference. if you drink only reverse osmosis or distilled water the difference will be striking(i think many people get so accustomed to the chemical smell they forget its there.)
