This system is great. I love that I can see in the chamber and the on off bypass throttle is a plus. I would still shut the water off when changing to be safe

Thank goodness for these reviews and feedback from you folks! I bought a GE 22000 Water softener and this Filter at HD 5 days ago. Installed both myself with CPVC pipe and fittings. All went well. Filter too. Then I wanted to take the canister off the filter, empty it and rinse out the filter element – it was brownish after starting up the water… I did this 3 times since install – first 2 times simply shut of the water supply (installed 2 more shutoffs,, 1 B4 the Softener, and another after the filter. The 3rd time I wanted to clean out the canister – I pushed the red buttom to relieve pressure then removed filter, etc etc. When turned the water supply back on….drip drip drip. Pushed the button a few more times – nada. Then turned water supply on/off a few times – still dripping slowly – CRAP!!!! Would have hated to remove and replace… Then re-read comments – and the push 20 times etc etc. I did just that, and dripping completely stopped. BIG PHEW….! When changing filters WILL NOT touch that red button…. grrrrr.

Bought this to eliminate small particulate coming through the Lubbock city water system. It would build up and clog my facets about every month. Got the filter installed. It leaked profusely at the little bypass valve on the side of the unit. I bought a new one and reinstalled it. OK now!

After a flooded basement due to a bad pressure tank bladder. It broke one of my old filters that were 30 years old. I had a plumber install 3 of these in line. The first is off of the well, a 5 micron filter. After the water softner there are 2 taste and oder filters. These were installed in 2007 and I only have a problem when I don’t position the O ring correctly while changing the filters. I change all the filters every 2-3 months. I make sure I bleed off any air in the lines after installation at all the filters and at the faucet.

Don’t use grease, and regardless what they say, don’t use vegetable oil either. Anything that is going to leave a gum behind will louse you up. Get an inspection mirror with a light on it and clean the head with water and a plastic brush. Use warm water and dish soap on the male threads of the canister, and also on the seat. Replace the O rings as necessary. If you clean good enough then you don’t need a lubricant at all and the casing will seal so gently that you will hardly use the wrench (but you will probably need that wrench to take it apart later). Stock up on some extra O rings. Gentle. If it weren’t for the fact that they put the air vent on the side of it instead of up on the top where it belongs then the whole thing would be five stars. It is a big improvement over model number GXWH35F since at least this one has a bypass, and yet again because it’s transparent, and if maybe the air vent is as impractical as it seems to be then experience teaches that if you don’t even purge the air out of it to start with it will still work anyway, though with much bubbles, and at least you will have a defensible seal.

Just what we needed when particles began to appear from the pump well. Special thanks to the Home Depot associate who helped me get all the connectors together for easy installation.

The filter mounted easily and the installation of the water lines was simple. Note that the nipples (customer purchased) in the inlet and outlet pass through the bracket to hold the filter assembly. I placed the filter after my pressure regulator and before the water softener. No leaks, no muss, no fuss. Seems like it’s designed to do the job, but time will tell. Based on the amount of sediment I’ve seen it filter in the last couple of days, I suspect I’ll have to change filters as often as every month. Easily worth it for cleaner water.

This replaces a Cuno filter that I had for about 25 years. I hope this one does as well. I originally bought a different GE unit that was too big and had to replace it with this smaller size. The exchange took place as cleanly as possible. So far so good!
