My wife is very perticular about her water and she was concerned when i brought this home as she was expecting to have to get a huge $4k system. We were both surprised pleasently how crisp and clean the water was. To say the least, she loves it and that makes it for a happy house.

I had this same product in my last house and I loved it then, so when I went shopping for a new system for a new house, I bought the same thing again. I found that I like the 3 filter system best because it’s easier maintenance than the newer 5 filter, it’s price point is cheaper than the one filter in my Samsung refrigerator and the water tastes better. I didn’t install it myself either time, so I wouldn’t know that info. The person I hired didn’t complain about it anyway.

I have had three of the older GE reverse osmosis units (one in each of the homes I have lived in over the last twenty years) with this basic design. I installed them all myself and while I am pretty “handy,” I do not particularly like plumbing. I came to the GE site today to get replacement filters for my current GXRM10G (prior model), but after reading about this unit, I am thinking of replacing my ten year old one with this newer model.I write this review to respond to the “whining” I noted from some of the users who reviewed these units. Truth be told: some people should just not try to do some DIY projects. I found this an easy install with each of the three units I have had, but as I said, I am handy. Sad to say, some plumbers are INCOMPETENT. I once called a “reputable” plumbing contractor to unstop a drain line. I let them in and went to work. When I returned after work, I found four men standing around leaning on shovels. Their fearless leader told me that they would be back the next day because they were going to have to dig up my concrete floor in my living room to replace the drain line because they were sure that was where the problem was. I told them to get the **** away from my house and never come back. I called the company and they said they would take care of it. The next morning, two (different) men appeared and told me that they would take care of it, if I would let them, without destroying my house. So I went to work and they called me in about an hour and said all was well and there would be no charge. They also cleaned up where the other crew dug up my yard. That had nothing to do with my RO unit, but I think it explains why some people (including four plumbers spending two days to do a one person/two hour job) might have some problems with installing one of these units. But it does not reflect on the quality or difficulty of installation of these units. The three that I have owned have provided me with years of abundant, great tasting water. They are a bit pricy upon first consideration, but in the long run they are a fantastic value. I think I spent $250 for the one I am using now. Throw in some filter changes and it has probably cost me about a dime a day to have bottled-quality water on tap for ten years. In short, ignore the whiners. Buy one of these. Install it yourself if you can. If you can’t DIY, hire a competent plumber (one, not four) to do it for you in a couple of hours. If you have regrets, I am sorry.

Without a great deal of background or prior RO system use, I have little to base my comparison on. With this in mind … here we go.The system can be installed by a DIY individual. If you are unsure about your plumbing expertise, you may want to consider hiring a professional or someone more knowledgeable. The system is a bit complicated to install and even more so because of the location for the install; under a sink. Some installations may require you to source other parts for your existing water supply/drainage system so be sure to get an idea of the install ahead of shutting down your household eater system; my wife was less than pleased when I was 1/2 way into the project with the kitchen water shut off and heading to H.D. for more parts.End result. The water tastes better but I have not had the out coming water tested for purity levels which we generally do every few years due to high Nitrate levels in our groundwater locally. When considering the system, beyond the tedious task of installing, also be sure to consider the operational cost of filters since they will need to be changed based on use levels.

I wanted to replace a 5 year old GE system since it is great tasting water, is no longer made, and new system was less expensive than replacement filters. Professional plumber cost as much as the filter and faucet leaked at base. After two returns by original plumber, base still leaked. He said faucet was defective. I paid again for a second opinion. It still leaked. I tried myself. It still leaked. I tried a second system faucet, and it leaked, too. Finally, after several months, I bypassed the faucet base and plumbed the drain line directly to the drain, bypassing the faucet, especially since the water running sensor was not working anyway. Finally, the leaking has stopped. Pros: great tasting water Cons: ¼ inch hard plastic tubing very difficult to get completely on ¼ inch fitting; ¼ inch fitting screws into faucet base, and is easy to loosen, break and leak; faucet water running sensor did not work on two faucets I tried Fix: plumb drain line directly to drain, bypassing faucet since sensor may not work

We have had the product since 2010, so about nine years. No real problems other than my lack of handyman expertise in settting up. After battery died never replaced it, instead we just replace the filters on a regular basis. I don’t need to be reminded by a little light. We mark each filter with the date we replaced it with a magic marker. Makes it simple. The storage tank bladder broke after 7 years. Swapped it out and back in business. It has been a good unit overall and we would buy it again. Wish the filters were not so expensive.

Took a bit of time to install- had to follow instructions closely- but everything fit perfectly and it is working well – have not tested water in a lab- but tastes better than prefiltered water.
