Overall this is a great set. I have used it multiple times since receiving it just a month or so ago. Only found 3 issues to beware of.1. When using the larger die, the retaining ring that keeps the ratcheting mechanism popped out. It seems that under pressure it isn’t that sturdy and comes loose. 2. There is no easy way to apply more torque to the large die where it’s needed. There are a few adapters that connect to a standard ratchet, but can’t be used with there die. 3. There are larger sizes that i could have used, but realize that for a hand tool this may be difficult to use given the torque needed.

I dont know how many times I have wished I would have had a good complete tap and die set when working on small engines and other mechanical things. Well this set covers it very nicely. The different options of dies is great and covers just about all of the sizes of threads I have been working on. I commonly chase threads on bolts that I have pulled out of stuff just to make sure that they are clean and will go back in the hole smoothly. When I drill out a stuck bolt, then I tap the hole and insure that it is cleaned out before I put a new bolt in. This set so far has saved my hide on a snowblower and two lawn mowers. As far as I am concerned, its paid for its self already. I will keep you posted on how it does over the summer and into next fall.

This GearWrench Combination SAE/Metric Tap and Die Set is very good. It includes 34 of the most common sizes of both SAE and metric taps and dies; Ratcheting “T” wrench; Small and medium tap adapters; Die adapter; Spacer adapter to allow use with round dies; SAE and metric screw pitch gauges; Sliding “T” handle. The fitted case is excellent for keeping everything organized. I didn’t think I’d like the ratcheting “T” wrench because I ALWAYS back off ¼ turn or so to clear chips while cutting threads. However, with the 5 degree arc, I found it very easy to just flip the lever to reverse it, and in some tight places, the 5 degree arc of the ratcheting wrench would certainly be helpful. If needed, the sliding “T” can be used. The die adapter with the “Twist Lock Guide System”, to keep it centered, is a very good feature. However, the adapters have a ball bearing in the end preventing the use of a “Center Tap Guide” (see photo below) which is something I generally try to use when tapping. To use a Center Guide, I’ll have to use my other tap holders. . I tapped four 3/8-16 holes in my drill press table for my cross-feed vise and found the tap to cut extremely well, and clean One of the bolts used for that had some bad threads and I used the die to clean the threads up. That cut extremely well also. Instructions are not needed, or included, but some literature would be nice. The only literature included is the handy tap/drill size chart. I had to go to another seller’s web site to find ANY other information about this set, and even that was incorrect. I’m very pleased with this set and can recommend it.

This GearWrench Tap & Die set is as versatile as it is fabulous. The ratchet is reversible and is super comfortable in the hand. They call it a “T” wrench and it works for both taps and dies using their Vortex design. Whodathunk??? The dies very neatly fit a holder that extends below the handle so you save your knuckles from being scraped. A die adapter is included so you can use dies made to other international standards. The material for the taps and dies is a “high quality carbon tool steel”, apparently not HSS (high speed steel) or they would have specified. The taps are mounted in pull up and pull out holders for fantastic protection. If you are tapping a new thread and need to “break the chip” as you go there is a straight round handle to fit the tap holders so you don’t have to deal with the ratchet. Oh yeah, they even include a tap drill chart for everything in the set. All the drive tooling is under GearWrenches LIFETIME WARRANTY but the taps and dies are NOT. All the taps and dies are clearly marked for size and their respective place in the case is also marked. HINT: Use your wife’s fingernail polish in whatever 2 colors you can obtain and color code the SAE tools from the metric and their respective places in the case just to make things easier.

Looking at the pictures, particularly of the case I had assumed like most other cases it would be flimsy, particularly the red tap holders. I was proven quite wrong. This is a very well built set and upon initial inspection I am very impressed. I originally purchased this so that I would have the taps and dyes but primarily for the wrenches and adapters. I figured I would be replacing the taps as they broke with higher quality. Thus far I have had no issues with anything breaking or cutting less than good quality threads. I would highly recommend this set over more expensive high-speed steel sets. This will perform more than well enough and you get good quality tools that are easier to grip and if you late than the old style t-handles.The only problem with this and thus the only reason it did not get 5stars is due to HomeDepot advertising it as a 117 piece when it is actuality a 114 piece. In all this set is well built and well worth the money.

this has to be one of the most complete tap and die sets I have ever seen. I am a diesel mechanic by trade and was looking for another tap and die set for the home. I ordered this set and let’s just say it’s nice . I may bring this set to work and bring my old set home. This set is complete.

This is by far the most awesome tap and die set I’ve ever owned. It covers all sizes I will ever use and it is very high quality as you would expect for $200

This is a very nice, comprehensive tap & die set. For the price and for how often I need taps and dies (not that often), I really like this set. I gave 4 stars because it is not of highest quality, but for the money it is great. Many of the taps & dies have some flashing, not sharp and crisp edges like a high priced set would have, but still not bad. I like the ratcheting handles, and I have an old static handle to use if I don;t want the ratcheting. For hobbyist and small business, this set should serve well.

Exactly what I needed. Ratchet style driver made it easy to easily start the tap without getting it cocked or off of 90.

This set of Tap and Dies in English and metric sizes is outstanding.it comes in a well constructed carrying case and everything is very well made. It has a tremendous capacity from very fine to very large sizes. Home Depot gave a great value on this in comparison to other options. Very pleased.

Just what I needed! I loved the ratcheting driver as it helped me tap some holes in a tight location.
