Being a quarter inch set, this is for smaller tasks where a larger set would be overkill and cumbersome. It is a nice set. The plastic blow molded case has some issue as when locked up, i was able to shake the sockets out of their storage spot. I used a cut out from the packaging to fix that concern. The best I can tell, every socket piece is a true 12 point. The points are not very beefy compared to another different brand set I own. The ratchet switches very smoothly and when a socket or extension is attached, they have a solid snap lock action. Removing the socket was typical. It seems like a nice set. it does have any accessory you might need.

When I first picked up this set, I could not believe how heavy it is for a 1/4″ set. It is made of a high grade of metal with a polished chrome finish for a long life. The ratchet has a slim design for getting into tighter places and the on/off switch is flush mounted for easy access while in use. The sockets have a double line for SAE and a knurled line for metric. All of the sizes are engraved into the socket but your search time for the right on has just been cut in half. A thumb ratchet is included with the set and I have never seen one of these before. If your space is too limited for the regular ratchet, the thumb ratchet can be used as long as you can turn your fingers. It also has a reversal lever on top for switching from on to off. All of the sockets are 12 point, and they are off center loading to prevent rounding the heads of nuts and bolts. Gear Wrench also gives this set a lifetime warranty. For general use around the house, you will never purchase another set.

I am always asked by my son if I have a small ratchet and socket set yet so he doesn’t have to go get his set that weighs probably 70 pounds. Now I can tell him yes I have this GearWrench set.The 12-point tear drop shaped Ratchet is patented, low profile and thin and it is longer than most ratchets. This makes it easier to use in certain situations. It is 84-tooth full polished Chrome which replaced the 60-tooth Ratchet. There is a thumbwheel ratchet and a universal joint for use in tight places.The sockets range from standards to deeps with large stamped identification so you can tell the difference between standard (SAE) and metric (MM).The extensions are also full polished chrome. This is a very Nifty looking Ratchet and Socket set.The black storage case is set up for every socket, extension and wrench to have its own place. When the case is shut not one socket, wrench or extension can move out of place. This set weighs approximately 2.2 pounds so you can easily grab for it or store it anywhere for quick use.Over the weekend my son came over and installed a Ceiling fan in my dining room and needed a ratchet and socket. This time when he asked if I had a smaller Socket set I could actually say yes for the first time. He looked it over and said I had made a good choice in getting the GearWrench line. Gear Wrench makes some great tools. Well made and heavy duty. Highly polished chrome and great easy to read makings on all sockets . This will be another addition to my other tools in my tool cabinet. If they hold up like my other Gear Wrench tools I’ll be happy. This 51 piece 1/4″ drive 12 point sockets both shallow and deep well will be all you need in a 1/4 ” socket set. Everything imaginable is in this set. The off corner loading built into the sockets reduces fastener rounding. Comes in a plastic blown mold case for easy storage. Both metric and SAE sockets are included. Listed are the sizes of both SAE and Metric sockets. This is a very nice tool set. The quality seems good and it is well organized and has a ratchet device included in it. We got it to put in our truck for use on camping trips and road trips and the sturdy case it comes in seems like it will be an advantage to keeping us organized. We often camp out in our boat and boats always need a repair here and there. The only thing I’d change is to put a carry handle on the case.

This set comes with two of each size (long and short sockets) METRIC from 4 to 15 mm, and also 2 of each size STANDARD 3/16 to 9/16 sockets. Every socket in the set is 12 pt, there are no hex (or 6 pt) sockets. Each is labeled with LARGE engraving, and the box is labeled at each socket storage location. It has a single 84 tooth short handle ratchet and a “GearWrench” finger driver. Also included are two extensions and a universal joint. Very nice sturdy case which, when closed, secures all items in place without falling out of their intended storage location.

GEARWRENCH SAE/ METRIC 1/4 inch 12-Point Ratchet and Socket Set (51-Piece)Another high quality tool offering from GearWrench at a competitive price point. This ¼” set contains a full selection of all the important M.M. and S.A.E. sizes. (Regular as well as deep sockets.) Each socket is stamped with the size marked in large and easy to read lettering. The M.M. sockets have a knurled diameter along their lower base so you can feel you have a M.M. socket in hand before you even look at it. I find the ¼” set is the size I use most around the house and in my workshop. The socket wrench with 84 tooth ratchets is smooth as glass and the fine ratcheting is important when you must tighten or loosen bolts in close quarters. Really like the Red ¼” drive thumbwheel ratchet wrench. I’ve never had one and think I will use that often. The storage case is great. Every socket pocket has the size embossed in the plastic case and it is simple for me to keep everything organized. The lid can be detached and later reattached if you want to place in a tool box drawer. If you want to carry the case it is compact enough to grab with one hand or tuck under your arm. Everything in the case will stay in place no matter how much you jostled it or even if you transport the case upside down. I turned the case upside down and shook it, nothing was out of place when opened. GearWrench has a Lifetime Warranty. (Check their website for details.) I received the 51 piece Socket Set by GW Gearwrench today. These sockets come in a very sturdy case that have sizes marked on the tray that holds them ( The tray is black and the size is just raised, wish is was in white so they you could see the sizing easier). It’s for a 1/4 “ Drive ratchet and has sockets in both SAE and metric. The set also includes extension bar, Universal Joint, deep sockets along with standard, and a thumb wheel ratchet. This set will suit all of our needs. The only con I have is that I wish the case had a handle.

This is by far the best 1/4 inch socket set ever built. The quality is by far the best. Very nice case to keep them organized and ready to go to work. Used mine to overhaul a water pump. The sockets have good grip to not round off the edges of the nuts. Nice knurling to tell metric from standard sockets. Lots of sizes to choose instead of the downsized types with limited sizes.
