GearWrench 1/4 in. Drive SAE/Metric Standard and Deep Socket Set (47-Piece). The GearWrench 1/4 in. Drive SAE/Metric Standard and Deep Socket Set (47-Piece) is another professional product offered by GearWrench. I was immediately impressed by how easy to read each socket size is. These have large, bold print imprinted size that are about as easy as it gets on chrome sockets. These sockets also have a double line (SAE) and Knurled (Metric) design rings for easy identification Standard vs. Metric sockets. The chrome finish looks just as nice as any of the other sets that I have from Husky, Craftsman, or Matco. I personally like the chrome finish as it cleans easily and resists corrosion and rust. After years of having to own and use multiple socket sets, it’s very nice to have a single set of ¼” drive sockets which contain 3/16’ to 9/16” and 4mm to 15mm. Included sizes are: 3/16″, 7/32″, 1/4″, 9/32″, 5/16″, 11/32″, 3/8″, 7/16″, Deep 3/16″, Deep 1/4″, Deep 9/32″, Deep 5/16″, Deep 3/8″, Deep 1/2″, Deep 9/16″, 4mm, 5mm, 5.5mm, 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 14mm, 15mm, Deep 4mm, Deep 5mm, Deep 5.5mm, Deep 6mm, Deep 7mm, Deep 8mm, Deep 9mm, Deep 10mm, Deep 12mm, Deep 13mm, Deep 14mm, Deep 15mm, 5/32″, 1/2″, 9/16″, Deep 7/32″, Deep 11/32″, Deep 7/16″, 9mm, 13mm & Deep 11mm. I beginning to become a fan of GearWrench tools. Every GearWrench tool I own seems to be a keeper. SUMMARY: A GREAT ADDITION TO MY TOOL SET.BACKGROUND: I have several mismatched ¼ inch drive sockets and have wanted to get a single set to fill in the gaps. The GearWrench ¼ inch SAE/Metric standard and deep-well set looked perfect to fit the bill.REVIEW: As with all my previous GearWrench tools, the sockets look and feel great. The stampings were easy to read (for such small sockets.) I don’t normally keep sockets in the blow-molded case, but this case wall so well laid out and compact that I just removed the lid and set it in my tool chestSUMMARY: Exactly what I wanted.

Liked: all the different sizes, nice finish, 6 point power, knurled base to identify metric sizes, quality construction that should last a lifetime. Dislikes: cheesy open tray that does not retain the sockets at all, poor stamping depth on the size identifiers that makes some sockets hard to identify. Here is one more thought, metrics have the knurl, Sae’s are smooth with a 6 point hex around the size indicator to signify they are 6 point, but the metrics have a circle around the size indicator?? Why not a 6 point hex to indicate 6 point hex? It’s a whole number and has the knurl, I know its metric already. Overall it’s a decent set, but the second time I have to pick up 47 sockets because they fell out of the open tray I may chuck this set in the trash.

Excellent set of sockets made by gear wrench. Kit includes all the standard metric and standard SAE sockets needed forMost projects. The design offered more surfaces area contact between the socket and the nut/bolt for more force to be applied. I like how the metric sockets have the article line etched in to differentiate from the SAE sockets. Sockets come in a hard plastic bottom but not in a case only con I found with them.

My collection of 1/4″ sockets had become an assortment of very old, rather old, not so new, and worn including various duplicates so it was time to upgrade and update. Dumped the old in a junk box (have a hard time actually throwing anything away) and replaced them with this complete modern set of SAE & Metric 1/4″ sockets which have all sizes duplicated in standard and deep well versions. These sockets have engineered edges to facilitate the loading onto ratchets and the target fasteners. I also appreciate the time saving markings on each which identifies which are metric and which are standard.

This GearWrench 47 peice 1/4 in master socket set has SAE standard and deep sizes from 5/32″ to 9 /16″ .It includes Metric standard and deep sizes from 4 mm to 15 mm. The polished finish is excellent. The metric sockets have a knurled bottom for easy identification. All sockets are clearly stamped with their size. I have several GearWrench products and the quality is top notch at fair prices.

This is an exceptionally complete all-in-one set of very high quality 6-point ¼ drive deep and standard sockets, that range from 6MM to 15MM in Metric, and 5/32” to 9/16” in SAE. This is the entire size range that ¼ inch drive sockets are commonly available in, and it will serve the needs of general mechanics as well as electronics, hobby and commercial parts assembly interests. Sockets above 15MM and 9/16” are designed for use with larger 3/8” and ½” socket tools, due to the higher torque load they need to deliver. Hardware below 6MM and 5/32” is generally managed with miniature nut drivers and wrenches. The set is provided in a rugged high impact plastic storage box for secure storage and easy selection of the sockets. For shipping and presentation, the storage box has a unique screw-down clear plastic cover, to keep everything in place. All of the individual sockets are deeply and precisely embossed with the size, to make handling, selection, replacement in the storage tray and accountability easy. This is a very nice and well-thought-out feature. The quality, finish and performance is everything to be expected from GearWrench, a flagship brand in precision finished professional Mechanics tools. This is perfection, and an excellent choice in fine tools that will last.

This is a great set of sockets. You get both the standard and metric sockets. You also get the longer and shorter socks for both the standard and metric sockets all in one set. The only thing about the set is that it didn’t come with a case. The only thing it had was the plastic container with a clear plastic cover over it that had to have the screws taken off of it. The sockets don’t stay out. I will probably have to get a better case for them.

Large selection of sizes, but a few oddities in this set. First, the lid for this set is not for storage. It’s held on with eight small screws so the tray is really just for holding the sockets in a drawer. It would be nice to have a lid to keep these organized. The markings on the sockets are engraved or stamped into the sockets and I found them very difficult to read. The combination of the font and the shiny chrome made it just about impossible for this 56 year old to read. Finally, I found the larger sizes in a 1/4 inch drive set kind of strange. I’m pretty sure I would not use a 9/16 or 15mm socket with a 1/4 inch drive. That’s a lot of pressure to put on a small wrench. BTW, there are no drives included in this set.

The set comes in a cardboard box, then nestled in a hard plastic case that does not have a normal top. The top is a clear piece of relatively thin plastic that only stays closed with 6 screws. So if you want to store in the case, you have to either leave the cover off or screw on and off these 6 screws. I would have rather had a snap on/off lid to secure the pieces rather than this set up. I do like the larger numbers stamped on each piece. Easy to see the sizes…much appreciated. They work just fine and feel nice and sturdy to the touch. I like that there are both SAE and metric in one kit.The box states lifetime warranty, when I looked on the website it states limited lifetime warranty. So, hopefully I don’t have to use the warranty as it looks like lots of exclusions. Decent middle of the road set. As to how long they will last, time will tell.
