SUMMARY: A GREAT ADDITION TO THE DIY TOOL BOX!BACKGROUND: If you do enough DIY work you end up coming across various types of fasteners. Some are different enough you have to use a tool made for the fastener. External Torx bolts and screws are becoming more popular due to the increased use of torque limiting drivers. The chance to add an external Torx socket set to my tool chest was too good to pass up. I have not had a chance to use these yet as I don’t have a job in progress that uses them. FIT AND FINISH: I have been a fan of GearWrench since they first started making tools in 1996. I have several of their wrench and socket sets and was glad to see them making the External Torx socket set. The sockets appear to meet the same rugged specs as their wrenches. The black oxide finish works well for me, but the marking are very hard to read. It would be nice if the size of each fitting was etched at least 3 times on the outside of the socket to make identification easier.FEATURES: The set includes a socket rail for convenience. The green color of the rail makes it very easy to spot in my tool chest. The set includes the following sockets:1/4 in. drive: E-4, E-5, E-6, E-7, E-83/8 in. drive: E-10, E-12, E14, E-161/2 in. drive: E-18, E-20, E-22, E-24This is essentially every size of external Torx in common use.OPERATION: Although they look like impact sockets, the GearWrench site states “Use with hand ratchets or breaker bars” so use with impact drivers is not recommended. SUMMARY: A welcome addition to my DIY tool collection.PROS: SturdyCONS: Markings are hard to read.

I have extensive experience with external fasteners and this, in my opinion, is a very nice socket set. To have the ability to remove several external fasteners with a single socket is a big winner. As a mechanic, time is money and tools like these make vast differences. In addition, impact ready, this adds another benefit to the above mentioned. I do recommend and give Two Thumbs Up to GearWrench & The Home Depot!

External Torx fasteners (sometimes called “inverted” torx) are becoming more common on modern cars. If you want to remove one of these fasteners, you need external torx sockets. This set covers every size you are likely to need. I used these on a BMW repair job, and the sockets fit the fasteners quite well. Based on my first-time usage, the finish seems durable, and they can withstand a good deal of torque when dealing with rusty bolts. A+

Great set of external torx sockets, great to have the right socket for the job. With three grandsons all working on cars, we need the wright wrenches. Therese sockets can be used on your air guns or battery operated tools, they are heavy duty. They also work very well with ratchets and breaker bars. just a great addition to my toolbox. The grandsons will get a lot of use of them working on car engines.

With all the new bolts developed over the years, I now needed to get sockets for external Torx bolts. This set works well and gives a selection that will cover most jobs. It includes sockets for 1/4″, 3/8″ & 1/2″ ratchets. The sockets are sturdy, machined well and are well marked. The sockets are attached to a convenient carrying bar, so you can keep organized.

This is a really nice set of external torx sockets. I love the idea of the corners being slightly rounded out to prevent the rounding of corners on the bolts. The sockets are strong enough to tackle the tightest of bolts without splitting out the socket. The storage rail make it easy to keep the sockets all together when put in the drawer of your tool box, or hanging on a peg board.

I really like this set. For anyone that has need for external Torx (working on vehicles, motorcycles, etc.) this will meet your needs. What I like:• I found the quality to be on par with the price-point. I have no doubt these sockets will last for decades even with heavy use. Corrosion resistant and heat treated socket bases.• I like the socket rail. The sockets are easy on and off and actually stay on the rails when you want them to. It’s a good design. You can mount them to a wall or simply lay them flat in your socket drawer. In my socket drawer they hold steady and don’t tip over so that is excellent.• The included socket sizes will cover the vast majority of your needs for Pro or DIY.• The sockets worked well under a load and use. I didn’t experience any slipping with sockets holding firm. What I feel could be better:• The sizes are really tough to read on each socket. Very small and blend in with the surface of the socket. Of course many people know the size (or very close) just by looking at the socket.I feel for the price and quality this is a great choice. I recommend.

Very nice quality socket set. It does come in three drive sizes. 1/4-inch 1/8-inch and ½-inch. The sockets come with inserts that let them be stored on a long plastic storage bar. It is sort of a unique feature. The insert presses into the socket and then it slides onto the storage piece. The sockets themselves are good quality black metal. They do the job and then some. It’s a very solid product.

Reliable and durable, the socket set appears to contain reasonably good steel and was strong enough to break loose rusted-over bolts without slipping. This is a difficult to tool find and thus will probably rarely used, so the option to purchase individual sockets instead of the set would have been a plus.
