This 49 piece wrench set is perfect for the weekender or the DIY’er. This is a very nice wrench set. It covers just about any problem that could happen that you would need a socket set to take care of. I like the choice of metric and standard in the same box so you are not lookin all over for the metric set or the SAE set. The gears on the rachest seem strong enough to handle any job that you could use your hand and arm strength to tackle. The selection is perfect on sizes and its easy to disseminate between metric and SAE. I put this set in my boat where its handy for all kinds of problems. Great set!

THIS 1/2″ DRIVE SAE/METRIC STANDARD AND DEEP MECHANICS TOOL SET (49-PIECES) IS VERY WELL MADE AND FUNCTIONAL. THE RATCHET IS SOLID AND SMOOTH WHEN PUT TO USE. THE SOCKETS FIT TIGHT BUT ATTACH AND REMOVE EASILY. I REALLY LIKE THE SELECTION OF SAE STANDARD AND METRIC SOCKETS. THE SETS CASE IS NICE ITS SOLID AND WELL MARKED TO STAY ORGANIZED WHEN USING THE SELECTIONS. THE SOCKETS ARE WELL MARKED TO MAKE YOUR SELECTIONS EASILY. THE CASE HOLDS THE SET VERY SECURE AND WITH THE 30LB WEIGHT OF THIS SET THAT A GOOD FEATURE,EVERYTHING STAYS IN PLACE. THIS IS A GREAT ADDITION TO MY TOOL SELECTIONS .

This Gear Wrench forty nine piece socket set is the real deal, not a flimsy cheap set but a high quality heavy duty set for the man or woman who is serious about being a mechanic. It comes in two different kinds of sockets, metric as well as American sizes. Both the American and metric come with deep well sockets as well as the standard length socket. The case that comes with this is a very nice case that will last for many years. The best part of all is they come with a life time warranty. Do yourself a favor and head to Home Depot and pick yourself up a set or get one for your mechanic spouse or friend and then every time they use them they will think of you.

Great travel kit! I needed something that had a thin profile but was beefy too. I go trail riding in my Can-AM SXS and having tools is a must. I used these to tighten my lug nuts every ride to ensure my wheels do not fall off. This is very heavy duty. At only about 2.5 inches, it fits nicely under my rear seat. I secure it with bungee cords and off I go.

Overall this set does just what I needed. I was looking for a heavy duty 1/2″ deep socket set and this is exactly that. Upon opening the case you’re greeted with a quality socket set, and I only say that because I already own a Gearwrench torx set and that has lasted through some heavy abuse. I recently purchased a larger truck and with that comes the need for larger tools, which is where this set will be put to work. Each socket has a great finish, with clear etching identifying each socket. The really nice part of this set is the ratchet – it is a 120 click meaning you barely have to move the handle to catch the next click. A quarter turn is 30 clicks, compared to my no-name ratchet which does a quarter turn in 17 clicks. Very helpful in tight cramped quarters. My only critique is that the actual length of interior socket walls – they are relatively short, and then rounded. See my 4th picture. I have other deep sockets where the walls run the full length. The shorter wall length may cause issues if trying to catch a nut on a long bolt, where space is tight. The socket walls are stronger because of this, but depending on the work you do this is something to think about.

Professional quality. This Gearwrench socket and ratchet set is very nicely made. The sockets are all 6 point, which gives them greater strength and better grip, helping to keep fasteners from becoming “rounded off”. The chrome plating is high quality. Sizes are marked with permanent engraving (laser?) and is fairly large and easy to read. The range of sizes is a little different between deep and standard, but basically go up to 24mm and 1-1/8 inch. Those sizes are large enough to cover 99% of everything you will encounter in automotive repair. This set doesn’t skip any sizes, so you should be able to find the right size socket for European, Asian, and American cars. The included ratchet is a double 60 – in other words it has the resolution or fineness of a 120 tooth ratchet – wonderful for working in tight spaces – but still very strong since it is double pawl design. Two knurled extensions are included which have very good engagement with the sockets (not going to fall off by themselves). You also get a universal joint which has a very smooth action. The only downside that I can think of, is that the ratchet is not a quick-release style. You have to tug a bit to get the sockets to release. Not a big deal. I own a lot of mechanics hand tools, some of them rather expensive, and I have to say this Gearwrench set is right up there in quality, at a fair price. Highly recommended.

this 49 piece socket tool kit is great, it is nice and heavy duty, it all comes in a case and when full there is weight to the case. the sockets come in standard and deep,SAE and Metric which should make it a snap to do any job you might have . the ratchet handle has some weight to it , the sockets are all well marked so you know what size you have, all in all, a great product which i hope to use for the rest of my life!

I don’t use 1/2 inch drive sockets as often as I use 3/8 and 1/4 but when you need them nothing else will do. These sockets are solidly built with thick walls and reinforcing in the lower portion of the socket. The side walls also have a slight arc so they contact the fastener just off the corner to prevent rounding. If I need 1/2 inch sockets I am most likely breaking loose something that doesn’t want to move and knowing I am not going to round off the corners will make this a set I reach for when the time comes.

GearWrench 1/2 Drive SAE/Metric Standard and Deep Mechanics Tool Set (49-Piece) – a Home Depot Seeds Program ReviewI have lots of sockets for my ratchets but I really wanted a half inch drive set with ratchet to round out my sets. This 49-piece set from GearWrench has SAE and metric sizes in both standard and deep socket. I think this rounds things out pretty well. The pieces are all full polish chrome that provides good visibility and cleans up well. Like other GearWrench sockets, they’re hard stamped with the sizes so the markings will not wear off. I suppose it’s possible to tell the size just by feel since the SAE sockets have a double line while the Metrics have a knurled line etched in them. The teardrop ratchet is a 120 tooth allowing for a three degree swing so you’ll be able to work in some very tight spots. The ratchet in eleven inches long and all metal – even the forward/reverse switch. This 49 piece, 6 point set contains a good selection of deep SAE (1/2” – 15/16”) and standard SAE (7/16” – 1-1/8”) sockets. It also contains a good set of deep Metric(10mm – 19mm) and standard Metric (10mm – 24mm) sockets. There are also 3” and 5” extensions and universal joint that fit the ratchet’s 1/2” anvil. Of course, the 1/2” ratchet is also included. All of the pieces come in a rigid molded plastic carrying case with plastic latches in the front which hold all of the pieces securely. There’s no type of carrying handle for the case and since the sets weighs about 17 pounds, a handle could certainly be useful. The precision of the sockets seems good and I felt no play on the bolt heads and nuts I worked with. I didn’t measure them but the GearWrench site says they meet or exceed ASME B107.2/B107.33M that deals with the size precision. The site also says they have an “Off-Corner Loading Design” that is supposed to reduce rounding of the fastener you’re working with. I had no problem with any rounding but I really wasn’t working with any difficult bolts. The set says it’s made in Taiwan and the box says there’s a lifetime warranty but I couldn’t find the details on that. This is a very nice set of 1/2” ratchet/sockets at a good price. It includes a good selection of sizes in standard and deep sockets in both SAE and metric sizes. The full polish chrome is attractive and cleans up easily and the hard stamped sizes will not wear off with use. The case, while it holds all of the pieces securely could use some sort of carrying handle. I don’t think you would be disappointed purchasing this set.If you’re interested, the GearWrench product page is here:http://www.gearwrench.com/catalog/product/view/id/10176/

I was in the market to complete my socket collection with a 1/2” set. This GearWrench 49 piece socket set fills the bill. The set is a quality product, letting you drive bolts up to 1-1/8”(goodbye adjustable wrench!). You get a comprehensive list of big sockets – SAE and metric, standard and deep sockets. There’s one 1/2” wrench, two extensions, and one universal that lets you work at an angle. The set comes in a heavy-duty plastic case so everything will stay in its place. My set went to work right away on lawn tractor maintenance. The sockets settled onto the bolts well – I didn’t experience any “spin-off” or stuck sockets. Got the job done and saved the skin on my knuckles. As with my other GearWrench products, precision is key. The wrench has 120 positions, which means if you can get the socket on your bolt, you need just a tiny bit of room to get it turning. That’s the kind of quality that keeps me coming back to GearWrench, and why I recommend this product.
