Case: The case is a nice case. It effectively uses space for the sockets while not being too bulky. The latches are plastic yet hinged with pins. The hinges themselves have pins rather than it just being plastic. Had one that was plastic which eventually broke making the case useless so this is an important feature. It easy opens and closes. The sockets and ratchets do not lock into their slots. Not a plus or minus depending on your preference just a mention. The socket slots are numbered with raised plastic. The case doesn’t have a handle. Many do not but it would make carrying the set easier.The Tools: The tools are heavy and solid. The sockets and wrenches have “grips.” The ratchet does not. It has a smooth handle. The directional switch flips easily either direction with the thumb. The sockets do not lock onto the wrench. They snap on and pull off. The socket measurements are stamped large on the side of each making them more easily readable.The quality of the set and case make this a nice socket set. It’s the first GearWrench set owned. It’s a nice addition to any tool set.

Gorgeous set of 1/2-inch drive short 6-point sockets. Comes with a 10-inch handle (center of drive to end) with an 84-tooth drive gear. Also includes both 5-inch and 15-inch extensions. The set includes sockets in sizes 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 mm.These are the new style of 6-point sockets that “grip” the flats of the bolt and not the corners – supposed to held reduce rounding of fasteners.The sockets have the size engraved on 2 sides to make identification quicker, and a ridge all around the base to identify them as metric and standard size. The larger sockets have the size marked in a large font, and sadly, the smaller ones (10mm to 16mm) have it marked in a smaller font that an old goat like me found a little hard to readThe set comes in a plastic blow-molded carry case. The lid can be removed to use the tray inside your tool box, which is what I prefer. The tray (without the lid) is 16 inches wide by 8-1/2 inches deep.One of my favorite features is the direction lever that is labeled with “on” and “off” so you can tell by looking at it which way the tool is set to work.

I’ve been replacing many of my tools, since a storage unit fire a few years back, destroyed a lot of the tool collection I had acquired over many years. I was still lacking a full set of 1/2 inch drive, metric, 6 point shallow sockets (I had replaced my deeps). I was actually in the tool selling business many years ago, Gear Wrench was rather new to the market at that time. An innovative company, they first became popular with a newly designed, patented ratcheting box wrench. Since then, have grown to include a full line of tools for all professionals and DIY’ers at extremely reasonable prices. So when I found this set, it was game on. The set includes (all 6 point) sockets from 10mm through 24mm, an 84 tooth ratchet along with a 5 inch and 15 inch extensions, packaged in a well made plastic case (no handle). The appearance of the set was as appealing as any brand I’ve previously used or considered. After using them I’m not disappointed in their performance. The quality and performance of this set is as good as any of the high dollar sets that cost much more. The highly polished chrome finish keeps them looking great and the ratchet gear (84 fine tooth) can handle tight nuts and bolts with a minimal return swing so it works very well even in tight spaces. Take it from an ex tool guy, if you need a metric 1/2 inch drive socket set, don’t over pay. Go with this set. Chances are, they came off the same tool line as some of those more expensive brands.

1/2 in. Drive Metric Socket Set (18-Piece) – Before the first time you use this set, you will appreciate the quality. The ratchet is a beefy one that is long enough to get leverage on most bolts or nuts. With its 84 teeth the ratchet turns very smoothly and keeps working even in the tightest spots. The sockets are all 6 point with the size clearly stamped into each one. The metric sockets have a knurled band to distinguish them for SAE. The set comes with 5” and 15” extensions and is packed in a very nice case.

Many things I own now, such as tractors and equipment use metric bolts and nuts. Having a quality sockets set is a must. This set has all the metric sizes commonly used. The sockets are well made, not cheap thin walled. The ratchet is tough and strong and the reverse/forward toggle works well. These are a nice addition to a mechanic toolbox or anyone who has equipment to service. Would like it better if there was a button for taking sockets on and off.

Excellent. Since I have gotten over the hill, I am going to enjoy the rest of my life using higher quality tools. These Gearwrenches make working more fun. Nothing brings frustration than a sloppy tool. Cheaper tools can get the job done but there is something to be said when a tool is efficient and becomes an extension of your arm.I like the click as the teeth engage, it feels secure. The chrome is thicker than the average tool and doesn’t chip even when impacted by metal. These wrenches feel heavier but even more ergonomic. There is no play when the socket is placed on the bolt. Well built, a must-have the perfectionist.

The ratchet cycles smoothly and the 84 tooth drive allows for a short swing angle for limited access work areas. The drive catches and turns without any wiggling. The sockets have a polished finish and the etched sizes are easy to read. The 15 inch extension bar is a nice feature of this set. Do not open the blow mold case upside down. The case does not have retainer clips on any of the socket or drive slots and they will fall out if the case is opened upside down or on edge.

The Gear wrench 18-piece 1/2 inch drive metric socket set is a wonderful addition to my tool box. Well, made, sturdy and polished with no rough edges. The extensions are knurled for added security.
